Is Jade Ruyi a buddhist supplies or a Taoist article?
"Ruyi", also known as "holding the monarch", "holding the friend" or "talking about the handle", evolved from ancient water poles and scratching sticks, and most of them were S-shaped, similar to the shape of the Big Dipper. During the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, the wishful shape was mainly curved palm on the handle. In the Tang dynasty, the handle was flat, bent upward and evolved into a neck, and the handle head was in the shape of three cirrus clouds. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Ruyi reached its peak, which was popular because of its precious materials and exquisite craftsmanship. Ruyi, which is mainly based on the shape of Ganoderma lucidum, has been endowed with the meaning of ominous exorcism and has become a valuable gift bearing good wishes such as praying for peace. Courtiers often offer blessings to congratulate the royal family on their birthdays, and the royal family also sends blessings to princes and ministers, which gradually becomes the meaning of the rights and wealth of the upper class. In the late Ming Dynasty, Ruyi, because of its unique customs, became the research object of literati who respected the ancient style.
Jade ruyi, I think it was first used by Taoism, because Taoism is closely related to the ancient folk in China. The appearance of "shaped like the Big Dipper" is the seven-star god worshipped by Taoism, that is, the "Big Dipper". However, in China culture, the worship of the stars including the Big Dipper has a long history, long before the formation of Taoism.
China has a history of using jade for 7,000 years. The cultural connotation of jade is jade psychic, which can be summarized in one sentence, that is, "Witchcraft uses jade to serve the gods" (Shuo Wen Jie Zi), while Taoism is formed by absorbing witchcraft and folk culture.
