Types of Ancient Calligraphy in China;
As we all know, there are five styles of calligraphy: seal script, official script, model script, line script and cursive script. Although not many, few people can practice well. However, you may not know that there are far more than five styles of ancient calligraphy. Xu Wei, a calligrapher in the Tang Dynasty, wrote a book called "Fifty-six Books Side by Side". He said that there are 56 styles of calligraphy, which are very detailed.
China's calligraphy has a long history and has changed greatly since ancient times. What are the main calligraphy in China's thousands of years of history? Why does this kind of calligraphy appear? In the history of China's civilization for thousands of years, there are nine kinds of calligraphy, including Oracle Bone Inscriptions, bronze inscription, seal script, official script, regular script, cursive script and running script.
1, Oracle Bone Inscriptions
Oracle Bone Inscriptions is an ancient Chinese character in China and the earliest mature Chinese character we can see. It mainly refers to the characters carved on tortoise shells or animal bones by the royal family in the late Shang Dynasty in China, and it is the earliest known systematic Shang Dynasty writing carrier in China and East Asia.
2. Jinwen
By the late Shang Dynasty, there were already cast inscriptions on bronzes, which we called "bronze inscriptions". "Bronze Inscription" here refers to a calligraphy name of Chinese characters, and refers to the inscriptions cast on bronzes in the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, also called Zhong Dingwen.
3. Books
Also known as "Zhun", it is named after recording with "Zhun" and overlapping fonts. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Shi Guwen, who was popular in Qin State, was the masterpiece of this kind of calligraphy. Shi Guwen, named after being carved on the stone drum, is the earliest stone inscription and the ancestor of stone carving.
4. Xiao zhuan
After Qin Shihuang unified the characters, he changed the seal script to seal script. On the basis of zhòu originally used in Qin State, it was simplified and a unified Chinese character writing form was created. Seal script was popular from the Qin Dynasty to the end of the Western Han Dynasty (about 8 AD), and was gradually replaced by official script.
