History of Tiyu West Road

Tiyu West Road, located in Tianhe District, is a north-south main road, starting from Tianhe North Road in the north and reaching Huangpu Avenue in the south, with a total length of 1.600 meters and six lanes in both directions. 1987 is associated with the completion of tianhe sports center, and it is named Tiyu West Road because it is located on the west side of tianhe sports center. On the east side of Tiyu West Road, tianhe sports center and Tiyu East Road, Tianhe Airport, the longest used airport in guangzhou civil aviation history, was once located. In 1929 (18), at the appeal of Chen Qingyun, Acting Minister of Aviation, Tianhe Airport started construction and was finally completed and put into use in 193 1 year (20 years). The mutiny of the air force led to Chen's defeat against Chiang Kai-shek and forced out. After the reform and opening up, in order to welcome the upcoming 6th National Games in Guangzhou, the municipal government decided to build a large-scale sports center in Tianhe. 1In July, 984, tianhe sports center broke ground at Tianhe Airport, which had been idle for many years. After three years' construction,1August 30th, 987, tianhe sports center with gymnasium, swimming pool, stadium with capacity of 60,000 people and auxiliary track and field was built in the original site of Tianhe Airport, and Tiyu West Road was also completed and opened to traffic. Today's Sports West Road has become the core area of the bustling Tianhe. Tianhe City, built in the 1990s, leads the consumption concept of Guangzhou people with the concept of a large shopping center. 1999 The fully opened subway 1 Line has also set up a "Sports West Road Station" here, making this area more bustling and crowded. In the past, the original site of the vast Tianhe Airport has disappeared.
