Chundao Tanzhe Temple

I took the subway for an hour and a half and took the bus for another hour and a half. Cars run narrower and narrower along the mountains in the west of Beijing, and there are fewer people and cars. Finally, they came to Tanzhe Temple, an ancient temple located in the mountains of a bustling city.

The reason why I am so interested in Tanzhe Temple is because of the articles of Zhu Ziqing and Yu Dafu.

After reading Mr. Zhu Ziqing's article "Tan Jie Temple in Tanzhe Temple", I know that there is great beauty in the deep mountains, and it is not easy to appreciate it.

He said in the article: This section of the road is worth seeing. Just like a riverbed, you can't pick out a place without stones, and you always stumble under your feet. It's annoying. There are no trees, not even a grass. This area used to be a coal mine, and there were endless carts pulling coal. The dust was soaked with coal dust and turned into a dull dark gray, which made people breathless. I feel exhausted after walking a little, and I am afraid that I will be exhausted if I don't walk. Fortunately, a donkey came down from the mountain, hired it as a treasure and got on it. The east wind was particularly strong that day. Riding a donkey is unstable at ordinary times, and it never rains but it pours when the wind is strong. Everything on the mountain has a narrow road with a slope below; Originally walking from the west, the donkey driver saw that the wind was too strong and pulled the donkey to the east road. In this way, once a strong wind almost blew the donkey down; If we go west, I won't have a chance to walk with the donkey ... As usual, there should be some poems on the donkey's back, but I have to take care of the donkey and its hat and glasses. There is also the problem of tears in the wind, and you often have to take out a towel to dry it. I wish I had a third hand.

It is not easy for Mr. Zhu to lead twenty students along the way. It was late when I walked to Tanzhe Temple. I stayed in the temple for one night and woke up several times, but he saw the beautiful scenery of the courtyard and how he described bamboo: I walked into a corner gate and suddenly two thick bamboos stood gracefully by the wall; In the idiom of approval, these two bamboos can be called "pens flying from the sky".

When reading Mr. Yu Dafu's Autumn in the Old Capital, I saw this sentence: Autumn in the north has passed for nearly ten years. Every autumn in the south, I always think of the reed flowers in Taoranting, the willow shadows in Diaoyutai, the insects in Xishan, the jathyapple in Yuquan and the bells in Tanzhe Temple.

The bell of this Tanzhe Temple has been ringing in my heart for decades, and the lingering sound is endless.

Following this beautiful bell, I approached the Tanzhe Temple.

Time has changed my memory, and Tanzhe Temple is not far away. Mr. Zhu's road full of coal dust has already turned into a flat painted road, and the two-lane painted road twists and turns into the mountain. After passing Tanzhe Temple Town, I walked a few kilometers and entered the hinterland of the mountain. I saw a restaurant on the roadside, and people were soliciting business in front of it. They motioned for the car to enter the yard and stop for dinner. After getting off the bus and eating, I saw an old woman in front of a restaurant pick up a pile of poplars that fell to the ground at the end of flowering, and then carefully selected them. I didn't know it was called Poplar Dog until I asked. It's a fine product, dipped in sauce and fried-there are poplars in my hometown. I didn't expect poplars to be so wonderful.

Walking along the mountain road to the mountain, the mountains are all pink and white, setting off the gray-black slightly green hillside vividly and charming. After another uphill walk, I looked up and saw the red wall in the shade of green trees.

There is an ancient temple in the deep mountains, and Tanzhe Temple is here, halfway up the mountain.

Look at the bamboo outside the wall first. This is the bamboo that Mr Zhu saw in those days. Very thick, very thick, already green.

"First Tanzhe Temple, then Beijing City".

This ancient temple, built in the first year of Yongjia in the Western Jin Dynasty (AD 307), has a history of 1700 years.

In this long history, many emperors and celebrities came to the temple to burn incense. Among them, Jin Xizong visited Tanzhe Temple in the first year of Tong (1 14 1) and invested in the renovation and expansion of Tanzhe Temple.

During the Dading period, Crown Prince Wan Yan Yungong went to the Tanzhe Temple to worship Buddha on behalf of his father Jin Shizong Wan Yan Yong. To this end, the abbot Yu Chong Zen Master wrote a poem "From Xianzong to Tanzhe Temple", describing the grand occasion at that time. Later, in the fifth year of Ming Chang (1 194), it was carved into a monument and stood in the temple. Now this monument still exists.

Princess Miao Yan, the daughter of Kublai Khan in Yuan Shizu, atoned for her father and became a monk in Tanzhe Temple. After she passed away in the temple, she knelt in the guanyin temple every day to chant "Li Yin". After a long time, she actually ground an adobe in the temple to a depth of two feet. Today, the brick worship of Princess Miao Yan is still enshrined in the Guanyin Hall of Tanzhe Temple, which is a very precious historical relic of Tanzhe Temple.

In the early Ming Dynasty, Yao Fuzhuo, an important official, seized the throne and retired to Tanzhe Temple for seclusion. He discusses Buddhism with his old friends and the abbot of Tanzhe Temple every day. During this period, the Ming emperor Judy visited him in Tanzhe Temple. It is said that when Beijing was built, the designer was Yao. He got a lot of inspiration from the architecture and layout of Tanzhe Temple. He lived in seclusion in the quiet room of Shao Shi in Tanzhe Temple, which still exists today.

This mountain nest has plenty of sunshine and good feng shui. It is a place where a gold plate holds the moon, much like a chair. This ancient temple is backed by a high mountain and has a wide front. There is a small river in front of the temple, which is often overlooked. In fact, this river is quite deep, with aquatic plants on both sides. The cheerful stream in the mountains trickles, stop and listen quietly, and you can hear the gurgling sound of running water. The tall mountain peaks blocked the cold current from the northwest, forming a warm and humid microclimate where Tanzhe Temple is located. Therefore, the vegetation here is lush, there are a lot of ancient trees and famous flowers, and the natural scenery is extremely beautiful.

There are nine small peaks around Tanzhe Temple. It is said that the Buddha took a fancy to it because of these nine peaks, which means "surrounded by nine beads". Jiu Feng guards the middle of Mount Qomolangma, and the large-scale Tanzhe Temple is built at the southern foot of Mount Qomolangma. In the thirty-sixth year of Kangxi, Emperor Kangxi named the temple name Xingtan Zhesi as "Yun Xiu Temple" and wrote the temple forehead in person. Since then, Tanzhe Temple has become the largest royal temple in Beijing.

It is said that the six words on the plaque at the main entrance of the temple are written by Emperor Kangxi himself. The origin of the name Tanzhe Temple is very simple and direct, because there is Longtan on the mountain behind the temple and there are many Zheshu trees around it.

In its heyday, Tanzhe Temple had more than 30,000 monks and 999 and a half rooms. The main hall is built on the mountain, and it is strewn at random. The layout and style of Tanzhe Temple fully embodies the aesthetic principles of ancient buildings in China, and there is a central axis running through it, which is basically symmetrical left and right. Some people say that when the Forbidden City was built in the Ming Dynasty, it was built after Tanzhe Temple.

When I entered the temple gate, I saw cigarettes around me. There were not as many pilgrims as Lingyin Temple, and the incense was not as prosperous as the Lama Temple, but there were many good men and women, and the incense was also very prosperous. The pilgrims bowed their heads or folded their hands in meditation, leaving waves after waves. The buddhas in China temples are basically the same, and so is the design of the main hall. The Tathagata in gold has a dignified appearance and treats all sentient beings with compassion. Unlike Japanese temples, the deities and buddhas enshrined in them are often unexpected, such as dark sky, shining gods and so on.

Cigarettes curl around and get thicker and thicker.

The temple is magnificent and the courtyard is quiet. There are many ancient trees and famous flowers in the temple, which seems to be full of the aura of a thousand-year-old temple. Everything here is elegant and lush.

There is a "Imperial Tree", which is regarded as a sacred tree of Buddhism. Its trees are straight and deep, which can be counted. It is said to be a relic of the Liao Dynasty, which has been around for nearly a thousand years. Lush foliage, after thousands of years of wind and rain, the style remains the same. This imperial tree is actually two ginkgo trees called living fossils. Tall and straight, reflecting the royal power and dignity.

Legend has it that when the emperor dies, one branch of the imperial tree will be broken; When an emperor inherits the throne, new branches will grow on the imperial tree, so people call this big tree "Imperial Tree".

There are magnolia trees, which are full of flowers and fragrant, echoing the peach blossoms and apricot blossoms on the surrounding mountains.

There are "gold inlaid with jade bamboo", and the bamboo is green and yellow, which is faint and quiet. Unfortunately, dozens of bamboo poles are engraved with names and are scarred.

1700-year-old ancient temple has already formed an indescribable Zen meaning and become a unique temperament of Tanzhe Temple, which is awesome. No matter what kind of person, no matter what kind of experience, inner agitation or sadness, they will be touched here and return to peace, which is the comfort of the Buddha to all sentient beings. This wonderful experience is the richest gift that Tanzhe Temple has brought us.

It was a quarter past three when I left the temple.
