Guandi Belief in Guandi Temple in Quanzhou

When there was a great plague in Quanzhou in ancient times, the statue of Guan Di was carried out for patrol. The last one was held in 32 years of the Republic of China (1943). At that time, the plague was prevalent, and the board of directors of Guan Yue Temple in Tonghuai, Quanzhou organized Guandi to patrol. Guandi took sixteen big sedan chairs, followed by the second emperor Yue Fei and eight big sedan chairs. Along the way, people knelt down and prayed, scrambling to pay for the replacement of sedan chairs (I believe sedan chairs can avoid disaster). A sea of people, along the way people set up incense tables to meet, firecrackers were deafening.

After 1949, most Guandi temples were closed or collapsed or used for other purposes, but Guandi belief did not disappear. People believe that Guandi has the functions of managing imperial examinations, treating diseases and eliminating disasters, exorcising evil spirits, patrolling secret departments and making money, so all walks of life believe in him. Many people put the statue of Guandi at home to worship, or burn incense and kowtow at the gate of Guandi Temple. Even during the "Cultural Revolution", the Tonghuai Guandi Temple in Quanzhou was turned into a factory during the "Cultural Revolution", and the statues were destroyed, while the believers still flocked in front of the temple and kowtowed and prayed; Or go to church quietly at night. Every festival, there is a sea of people in front of the temple. When they become sworn brothers, they will go to Guandi Temple to change their music scores and swear to follow the "Taoyuan Friendship" between Liu, Guan and Zhang, and never change. Businessmen regard Guandi as the god of wealth, hoping to put loyalty first and make money with each other. People sailing on the sea, in addition to Mazu, often worship Guandi on board. When I am sick, I have to go to Guandi Temple for divination and draw lots, and even ask Guandi to help me pray for rain.
