Why did Chu sacrifice at night?
In July 2008, a batch of bamboo slips of the Warring States Period (referred to as "Tsinghua Bamboo Slips") entered Tsinghua University, and Chu Ju was one of 63. This paper records the migration route, political and military history of the king of Chu in Shang, Zhou and Spring and Autumn Period. It is recorded in it: "If the cloth is moved to Yitun, it will be a room, and the room will stand. There is nothing in it. It's a sacrifice for stealing people, fearing their master, and burying their bodies at night. By this evening, it will be night. " The ancestors of Chu people moved to Yitun through divination and built houses, but there was nothing to hold a sacrificial ceremony, so they stole their neighbors' cows and had to hold a sacrificial ceremony in the middle of the night in order not to be discovered by the people. Perhaps the consequences of this sacrifice are very effective. Since then, the Chu people began to sacrifice at night. Later, night sacrifice became a unique tradition of Chu.
