Many parts of the brain are involved in the information processing of facial images, but imaging research shows that a part of the facial region called fusiform gyrus is particularly important, which is a part of the temporal lobe of the brain. The occipital facial region at the back of the brain may also play an important role in the process of distinguishing whether the object you see is a face. The superior temporal sulcus in the temporal lobe can also respond to the observed changes in expression and visual angle.
