"Historical Records Zen" records: "Zou Zi's disciples wrote five virtues and the Qin emperor, and the Qi people played them, so the emperor adopted them." Qin claimed to be Shuide. According to the theory of five virtues, water virtue was fire virtue in the past, and water was better than fire, so it is reasonable for water virtue to replace fire virtue.
As for the situation of the Han dynasty, it is a bit complicated. At the beginning of the Han Dynasty, when the Emperor Gao was in power, Zhang Cang's agreement was taken as water virtue, and when Emperor Wen was in power, Jia Yi and Gong's proposal was taken as earth virtue. Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty designated it as Tude. It is believed that the theory of "three unification" put forward by Dong Zhongshu in "Spring and Autumn Stories and Three Generations of Restructuring" means that business is white unification and ugliness is construction; Zhou is a red system, a scorpion; When there was a new king, for the black system, Yin Jian, "degenerated from the theory of five virtues." There is a contradiction between the theory of three unification and one theory and the theory of the end of five virtues. At the end of the Western Han Dynasty, when Wang Mang was in power, Liu Xiang and Liu Xin rearranged the order of ancient history according to the sentence "Emperor was shocked by the earthquake" in Zhouyi Shuo Gua, and calculated that Han was a fire virtue from Shennong and Huangdi. At the same time, it is concluded that divination is a false trust of the Han people.
Their conclusions are as follows: First, Wu De has always said that the order of dynasties is very problematic and should be counted from Fuxi, not Huangdi; Second, the replacement of dynasties is not a mutual relationship, but a mutual relationship. Qin ignored it, so Han inherited the Zhou Dynasty and made a fire with wood, so Han was a fire virtue. Wang Mang usurped the "fire virtue" that was not officially recognized. Instead, they recognized that Han must be Huo De, but no one mentioned it. When Liu Xiu fought for the world, his banner was to revive the Han Dynasty. In order to show his orthodoxy, I have to admit that Han is a fire virtue and has made great contributions to himself.
When Liu Xiu established the country, he became a martial artist and made Luoyang his capital. The word "Luo" in Luoyang is unlucky to be bordered by the word "water", so the word "water" was removed and the word "Jia" was added and changed to Luoyang. Next, "the suburban omen is in the south of the city, the fire is just right, and the color is still red." At this point, "Han with fire" finally admitted to the official, and the Han people became popular from then on. Later, when Ban Gu and Ye Fan wrote history, they both found it difficult to explain this phenomenon of "turning earth into fire". Ban Gu is very clever. In Hanshu, the story of Liu Bang's white snake barking proves that Han is indeed a fire virtue. Ye Fan is more honest. In the Book of the Later Han Dynasty, he vaguely said, "In the early Han Dynasty, the soil was virtuous, the color was still yellow, and the fire has been virtuous so far." He just laughed and escaped.
From then on, the Eastern Han Dynasty was called "Fire Virtue", and there was a special phrase called "Han Yan", which was recognized by everyone, but Tude and Shuide were hardly mentioned.
The theory of five virtues has evolved into two sets of algorithms since the Eastern Han Dynasty: one is the five-element winning method that Zou Yan got from the Yellow Emperor; There is also the Five Elements Method developed by Liu Xin from Fuxi. These two sets of five-virtue systems run in parallel and have been passed down to later generations. However, the method of "five elements coming together" came from behind and gradually evolved into the mainstream. This algorithm was used in many dynasties, and the method of "five elements interacting with each other" will only be remembered if the former is not good.
