A five-character poem that begins with a word

Visiting Taoist priests in Nanxi.

Author: Liu Changqing in Tang Dynasty

Walking along a path, I found a footprint on the moss.

After a while, the clouds fell low on the quiet lake, and the grass was sweet with an idle door.

A pine tree that has become greener because of rain, a stream that originated from the mountain source.

Mixed with truth, I have forgotten what to say.

Translation:

Where I passed along the way, the moss trail left shoe prints.

White clouds snuggle up to the quiet sandbar, and spring grass surrounds the idle door of the Taoist temple.

After the new rain, the pine and cypress are green and walk along the mountain road to the water source.

I was relatively silent when I saw that the brook flower was calm and quiet.

Creation background

Dali (Tang Daizong year, 766-779 AD) was a sentimental time. Many poems deliberately express sentimental color, but more is to get rid of the frustration of the times, the political depression and the confusion of the world, and pursue tranquility, distance and indifference. Liu Changqing's poems also reflected the "aspirations of the times" at that time.

The poet hurried to visit a Taoist in the mountains, but was turned away. He looked everywhere near his residence, but he still didn't get what he wanted. Instead of being disappointed, the poet got spiritual comfort and psychological satisfaction. This poem was written under such circumstances.
