How did Duan Hong die in the Han Dynasty?

Died of witchcraft.

Minister in the period of Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty, formerly known as Gao, and later avoided the concubine name of Emperor Han. He said that Duan Hong and Ji An, the famous minister who dared to speak at that time, were from Puyang, fellow villagers, whose date of birth and death was unknown, and died of witchcraft.

Duan Hong, a beautiful woman. At first, I worked with Gai Wang Houxin, the younger brother of the Empress Dowager, and later I became the assistant commander of Jiuqing. As an envoy of the Han Dynasty, he arrived in Huainan twice to announce the order of the Central Committee and investigate Liu An, which was appropriate. Huainan Wang and his son planned the assassination, but it didn't happen.

Biography of the King of Huainan in Historical Records and Hanshu all mentioned that the envoy of the Han Dynasty was Hong. Captain Hong was sent to Huainan in the fifth year of Yuan Shuo (BC 124). This year, he was sent to Huainan twice. The first time, he was ordered by Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty to "inquire" about the king of Huainan. On the surface, he reprimanded Liu An and his son for preventing Lei from joining the Han army. The actual purpose is to secretly investigate the rebellion of Huainan Wang against Lei. The second mission to Huainan was to convey the imperial edict of cutting Huainan two counties. Because Huainan Wang and his son were worried about the incident, they planned it twice. Once they found out that the emperor sent "Captain Hong" to investigate whether Huainan was rebellious, they assassinated "Captain Hong". Liu's prodigal descendants reported the two assassination plans to the Han Dynasty. The activities of "Hong" in the Huai Nan Wang case stop here. Two years later, when the incident occurred in the East Window of Huainan Wang, there was no record of Captain Hong's participation in the handling in historical materials. That is to say, it can be determined that "Captain Hong" served or served as a lieutenant in the fifth year of Yuanshuo. But we can only be sure this year.

Today, there is no lieutenant's name macro in this edition of Han Shu Guanbai Communist Youth League Table, and the fifth year of Yuanshuo is just a year in which personnel changes are recorded in the table: "Captain Zhao Yu is a small official. Captain Yin Rong. " That is, this year, Captain Zhao Yu was moved to Shaofu and was succeeded by Yin Rong. The next personnel change in the post of lieutenant was in the first year of Yuanshou two years later (BC 122, Huainan): "Captain Sima 'an". That is, in this year, Sima An took Yin Rong as the lieutenant. From this point of view, it seems impossible for "Duan Hong" to be a lieutenant in Yuanshuo for five years. According to Ji An Biography, Duan Hong was an official in Jiuzhong. However, during the period of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, Jiuqing did not have a surname of Hong. In this way, the list of officials in the Han Dynasty and Biography of Ji An are contradictory.

However, after careful investigation, it is not difficult to find that "Yin Rong" and "Duan Hong" are simplified characters, and the glyphs of these two names are unexpectedly very close, thus forming the possibility that "Yin Rong" and "Duan Hong" are actually the same person. According to the author's research, this possibility can almost be confirmed as a fact. The evidence is as follows:

One: The traditional Chinese characters of "Yin Rong" and "Duan Hong" are the same as the simplified Chinese characters, and the glyphs of these two names are surprisingly very close, so the possibility of "Yin Rong" is not small. In the process of copying history books, mistakes will inevitably occur. According to Records of Historical Records and Biography of Ji 'an, this man's name is Duan Hong. However, Sima Zhen, the author of Historical Records, did not see Duan Hong. He wrote the following note after Puyang Duan Hong: "Duan Ke, case: Han Shu is Duan Hong". That is, Sima Zhen in the Tang Dynasty chose the version of historical records when he wrote them. This person's name was Duan Ke. It can be seen that different versions of Historical Records have different ways of writing this person's name, and now it is impossible to determine whether this person's real name is Duan Ke, Duan Hong or Yin Rong. This increases the possibility of his name being wrongly copied, because at least one high-quality version of Historical Records was selected by Sima Zhen and called it Duan Ke.

Second, another "coincidence" happened in the year when Yin Rong was the lieutenant in the fifth year of Yuanshuo. In the official list of Han Dynasty, it was recorded that "Ji An, one master and one captain, is a right internal history". According to Ji An, it can be confirmed that Duan Hong has a close relationship with Ji An. The two are fellow villagers. After Ji An's death, Emperor Wu pitied and promoted Ji An's relatives, including Duan Hong and Duan Hong, who entered the DPRK for the second time as Jiuqing. Duan Hong and Ji An have a very close relationship, so it is very likely that Ji An was promoted to Jiuqing's "Yin Rong" by Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty in the fifth year of the Yuan Dynasty, and Duan Hong, a countryman closely related to Ji An, was the same person.

Third, it is clearly called "Hong" in Records of the Historian and Biographies of Huainan Kings in Hanshu. Unless the information of Ban Gu is missing, there is no record of anyone who served as a lieutenant for a short time after Zhao Yu left his post in the fifth year of Yuan Shuo and before Yin Rong took office. Otherwise, in the fifth year of Yuanshuo, the lieutenant of the Han Dynasty can only be Zhao Yu or Yin Rong, and Zhao Yu is obviously impossible, which is enough to determine.
