What is the origin of Gaochang ancient city?

Gaochang is an ancient desert city, standing at the foot of the flaming mountain in Turpan. Gaochang City was founded in BC 1 century. After a change of 1300 years, it was destroyed by war in14th century.

The layout of Gaochang City is very similar to Chang 'an City in Tang Dynasty: Miyagi is in the north, the inner city is in the south, and there are large buildings. There is a big temple in the outer city with murals in the main hall. Near the temple, there are handicraft workshops and markets. To the north of this city is a vast Gobi. Before Gaochang City was abandoned, most residents in the city were buried here after their death. In the south of the outer city, there is a row of building ruins, where there are many large pottery pots and pottery urn fragments, which are obviously winemaking workshops.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the "explorers" of the two countries made a lot of excavations here, destroying this ancient city, which occupies an important position in the history of China. It is said that only German archaeologist Lekirk stole more than 400 boxes of cultural relics from here.

The ancient tomb of Astana, 5 kilometers away from Gaochang City, is called the "underground museum". One of the most important discoveries in this tomb group is a large number of embroidery objects. The gorgeous embroidery patterns and exquisite weaving techniques show that the weavers at that time were influenced by Persian weaving, which is very helpful for studying the ancient Silk Road. Today, the cultural relics of the ancient tomb in Astana can be found in major museums around the world.
