Postgraduate entrance examination for psychology, can I?

As a student majoring in psychology, when I mention my major to others, I always hear the voice of surprise. To a certain extent, this kind of performance shows the development degree of psychology in China, which is in the primary stage. The performance of the primary stage is that the public does not understand psychology. I think the first manifestation of this ignorance is that psychology is full of mystery, and some people even think it belongs to the category of mysticism. This false mystery often leads people's understanding of psychology to two extremes: one thinks that psychology is pseudoscience, unreliable and full of contempt for psychology. Two kinds of people think that psychology is terrible and omnipotent, and people who know psychology can see through other people's minds at a glance.

Two kinds of people must be full of interest and yearning for psychology. However, this interest is mostly due to ignorance or one-sided belief that it has super functions and curiosity. According to the degree of misunderstanding and exaggeration of psychology, I personally think that this one-sided interest can be divided into two kinds: one regards psychology as mysticism, similar to fortune telling, and thinks that psychology is omnipotent, and people who understand psychology are like wizards and immortals. This kind of person wants to learn psychology, mostly for the purpose of reading other people's minds. They can't say that their purpose is not good, but it must be incorrect. There is a little voyeurism in it. The second equates psychology with success, thinking that we can motivate ourselves or control others through psychological adjustment to achieve the goal of rapid success. Or that psychology can easily solve all kinds of negative emotions such as depression. Learning psychology with this attitude cannot be said to be incorrect, and psychology does have such a function to some extent. But I think studying psychology is for this purpose. I feel that I am full of strong interest in psychology and have a strong motivation to study psychology. These ideas are biased, and I think this interest begins with an incomplete scientific understanding of psychology. This kind of motivation is also unstable and may be lost with the gradual understanding of psychology.

I think we should take these two interests seriously. SOP has many friends who are interested in psychology. Some of them use their spare time to study psychology, some want to take a postgraduate exam in psychology, and some even give up their current studies or jobs and switch to psychology. But I want to say, have you really thought about it? I also study psychology, not to say that psychology is not good. If you are really interested in psychology and pursue your dreams, it is understandable to spend money on it. Psychology is indeed a worthwhile undertaking.

However, I would like to remind friends who have great "interest" in psychology, please understand the real psychology and its actual development in China seriously, objectively and comprehensively, and then carefully examine and check whether their "interest" in psychology is pure. Psychology is a promising subject, but it is not suitable for everyone. After realizing that I am really interested in psychology, can accept the actual development of psychology in China and think that I can really make a difference in this respect, I encourage everyone to move forward towards their goals and ideals. However, if I am unfortunately right, your interest is mixed with what I said above. I hope you will seriously consider it.

In fact, I think the success of mysticism is also based on science, but I think that if the above goals are achieved through the study of psychology, it will be quite half the effort. Psychology is a very big concept, and success is only a very small branch, even I don't think it can be called a branch, it is an application of psychology. So I think it's much better to do it directly if it's my interest in this field.
