Don't be fooled by TV dramas. "Young Shuai" is neither an official title nor an honorific title but a derogatory term!

Speaking of Jong, I believe everyone will think of Zhang Xueliang in unison. Indeed, among today's many film and television dramas related to Jong, which one is not telling the story of Zhang Xueliang? However, this seemingly ordinary phenomenon has actually made a serious historical mistake: Jong is not an official title, let alone an honorific title, and all kinds of lines such as "Jong is here" and "Please tell Jong" are completely wrong. Because in real history, Jong is actually a derogatory term. No one dares to call Zhang Xueliang a rumble in front of him!

How did the name "handsome" come from?

To understand this problem, we must first understand how to call a person "handsome". Tracing back to the source, this title is actually an informal title in the officialdom of the late Qing Dynasty. As we all know, after the Taiping Rebellion, because the Qing government troops were vulnerable, the court had to allow all localities to set up groups to fight against bandits and chaos. In this process, private armies such as Xiang Army and Huai Army began to step onto the historical stage. This kind of army is not the official army of the imperial court, but privately recruited by the generals, so it is actually the private army of the generals.

Soldiers don't know imperial edicts, but only command orders. Over time, the officers and men of these troops will habitually call the generals of the unified army handsome. For example, Zeng Guofan is called Dishuai (Sheng Di), Ceng Guoquan is called Jiushuai (because he ranks ninth among his brothers), and Feng Zicai is called Cui Shuai (Cui Ting in Feng Zicai). By the time of the Republic of China, this title was still very popular in the military. For example, Wu is called "(Wu), Zhang is called" (Zhang Yuzi) and so on. This was a very common name at that time, and it could be seen everywhere in letters and telegrams at that time.

In addition to calling heavily armed warlords "handsome", people often call those military leaders who have relations with warlords "handsome" for reasons such as pleasing or flattering. Like the warlord's brother-in-law, they are generally called "handsome uncle"; The younger brother of a warlord is generally regarded as "three handsome" and "four handsome".

However, don't think that the son who leads the army can only be called a young marshal if he inherits his father's footsteps. When he becomes an all-powerful man, you should take a sentence from his words and say that he is handsome. For example, Feng Yuxiang was also called Jong when he was in the army, but after he was alone, everyone called him "Huan Shuai" (Feng Yuxiang's word). Because it would be disrespectful to call you Jong again, as if you were acting like an elder.

In those days, it was really not a good thing to be called Jong. Because warlords themselves bring disaster to the country and people, most people despise them extremely, and their sons and nephews are rarely loved. Just like the word "official's son" in ancient times, it was originally an official position, with no meaning of praise or criticism. But for a long time, most of the people who held this position were government villains. Over time, this word became synonymous with the son of a dude. The name rumbled in those days was similar. There is no respect in this name. At best, it is a joke.

As far as Zhang Xueliang is concerned, others call him very strict. According to Zhu Haibei, the former assistant of Major Zhang Xueliang's bodyguard, Zhang Xueliang called his wife "big sister" or "big sister" instead of "fourth sister". Yu Fengzhi and Zhao Yidi called him "Little Master". If they are subordinates, they are all called "commanders-in-chief" and "heads of armies". Zhang Jinghui, Zhang, etc. You can call him "Han Qing". We can give another counterexample. That is, after Zhang's death, Feng's generals thought they were veterans of the previous generation. When talking about Zhang Xueliang, he always called him "Young Shuai", which eventually annoyed Zhang Xueliang and was shot in the Tiger Hall. Of course, Yang Yuting's death is not only caused by this incident, but also the problem reflected by this incident deserves our deep thinking: Yang Yuting, who was once under one person and above ten thousand people in the army, will bring disaster if he shouts behind his back. How can others scold Zhang Xueliang in person like those TV dramas?

Ironically, however, in the hands of some editors and directors, the word "Young Shuai" has inexplicably taken a gorgeous turn, from a derogatory term similar to "Official's Son" to an enviable honorific title, which has become popular on the screen. Isn't this a blasphemy against history? From this point of view alone, it seems that it is not difficult for us to understand why all kinds of incredible "plots" are saturated to the extent of flying all over the sky.
