Quanzhou Kaiyuan Temple was built in the early Tang Dynasty in 686 A.D., and it is a veritable thousand-year-old temple. It is said that it was originally called Lotus Temple because Huang Shougong, a rich man in Quanzhou, dreamed that mulberry trees would grow lotus flowers and built this temple in his mulberry garden. Later, it was renamed many times, once called Xingjiao Temple and longxing temple. Today's architecture is dominated by Ming and Qing dynasties, and the traditional architectural style of Fujian has been preserved.

This is also the largest Buddhist temple in Fujian Province, covering an area of nearly 80,000 square meters. In particular, there are two ancient pagodas in the temple, namely Zhenguo Pagoda and Renshou Pagoda, commonly known as the East-West Twin Towers. The two stone pagodas were rebuilt in the Song Dynasty, of which Zhenguo Pagoda is about 48 meters high and Renshou Pagoda is about 44 meters high, which is the tallest pair of stone pagodas in China.
