Ren Wei Temple is located in Qian Jie, Ren Wei Temple, Jinlong West Road, Guangzhou, in Old Pantang Township, covering an area of 2,200 square meters. It is a temple dedicated to the true Emperor Wudi of Taoism. At that time, it was the oldest and largest temple word, Pantang, in Zhou En's eighteen townships. Historical records: Ren Wei Temple was founded in the 4th year of Song You (1052). Large-scale construction was carried out in the second year of tomorrow (1622), the year of Qingganlong (1736 ~ 1795) and the year of Tongzhi (1862 ~ 1874). During the reign of Qing Qianlong, the temple was rebuilt. There were only the first three buildings in the middle road and the west step, and the second building and the east step were added when it was rebuilt.
When Ren Wei Temple was first built, it was named Beidi Temple. It is said that because Zhenwu Emperor is in charge of water, people call him the Northern Emperor or the Water God. Because the northern real Takeda Xuan God was called "Shenwei", it was later renamed Ren Wei Temple.
There is another story about the name of Ren Wei Temple.
Pantang, located in Lingnan Water Town, is famous for its lotus root, water chestnut, arrowhead, horseshoe (water chestnut) and bamboo shoots. In order to "be grateful and invite blessings to God so as not to cause trouble", the villagers in Pantang "worship God". It is said that Pantang had two brothers. My brother is Ren and my brother is Wei. One day, two brothers went fishing and found a strange stone. They took it home and made it an idol. From then on, "Life is smooth and handy" spread all over the village, and there were many worshippers within ten miles of Fiona Fang. When they went to the village to raise money to build the temple, the villagers changed the name of the temple to "Ren Wei".
The plane of Ren Wei Temple is slightly trapezoidal, facing south, with three roads and five steps deep, and a row of bungalows in the east. The first three buildings, including the main building, the east-west hall, the fourth hall and the fifth back building. Along the north-south central axis, there are Toumen, Main Hall, Middle Hall, Houdian and Houlou in turn, and the order from left to right is East-West. The elevation is 1 1m wide and 8m deep. Outside the gate, there is a granite pillar on each side, with a stone lion carved on its head, auspicious clouds carved on its body and two dragons playing with pearls. The lines are smooth and the image is very vivid, commonly known as "Dragon Column".
The main building is 40 meters wide from east to west and 54 ~ 60 meters deep from north to south. It's a brick-wood mixed structure. There are 9 beams in the house, and the roof is a 5-level volcanic wall, covered with blue-gray pipe tiles and inlaid with blue glazed tiles. Ceramic figures decorated with tiles, pavilions decorated with rooftops, main ridges of rooftops and stage opera figures on the tops of gables on both sides were all fired by Wenrubi Store in Shiwan, Foshan, Guangdong Province in the Qing Dynasty. The words "Tongzhi Ding Mao" (Tongzhi for six years, that is, 1867) are faintly visible. Roof beams, beams, arches, birds, etc. They are all made into wood carving process components, carved into auspicious patterns such as Kirin, and are all golden everywhere. The cornices are more beautifully carved, and Ji Xiangwen and opera figures are vividly carved. The brick carving pattern on the head is also beautifully carved and original. Lotus-shaped bucket arch, column beam fork arm and bracket are all carved into the shape of inverted pliers. Queti, hump and cornice are more transparent and exquisite, and painted with gold, which is the style of Chaozhou gold lacquer wood carving. Multi-level complex through carving combines relief, re-carving and round carving in one picture.
The main hall has 9 frames and 4 columns, and the main hall beam frame is connected with the four ebony pavilion beam frame in the form of hooks. Bucket arch, beam frame, sparrow replacement, hump and other parts are in the same style as the head beam frame. There are auspicious patterns on the hump, such as lion dance ball, auspicious dragon and phoenix, carp yue longmen, beaming and so on. Under the beam in front of the main hall, there are sculptures of immortals to celebrate their longevity and bless them. There are smooth ruyi lines at the bottom, with beautiful shape, fine carving and distinct layers. The lacquer surface between the two gold pillars is carved with the Eight Immortals and other Ming Dynasty figures. The bottom of all beams are engraved with patterns, which are extremely fine. People and animals are lifelike. The wood carvings are all painted with gold.
Buildings 3 and 4 and the houses in the east and west sequence are slightly less elegant, but the architectural style and style are basically the same as those in the main hall.
The architectural sculpture in the temple combines artists, woodcuts, brick carvings, gray carvings and other arts. They are vivid and lifelike, concentrating the essence of Lingnan ancient architecture art, so they are called "Gui Dian Lan Palace". At the same time, the whole temple has different shapes, including square, octagonal and basin cover. There are stone pillars, wooden columns, square columns, octagonal columns, columns and corner columns in the cross section. The woodcarving, stone carving and brick carving of Ren Wei Temple have their own characteristics and exquisite craftsmanship. Pottery and gray carvings are exquisite, with strong Lingnan local characteristics and styles, just like the Chenjia Temple, which left a deep impression on people. There are also many memorial tablets in the temple.
It is said that in the past, the third day of the third lunar month was the birthday of the temple fair, and the temple fair activities were rich and colorful, among which incense, incense and singing eight characters were the main activities during the birthday of the temple fair. There is an old man in the village who will preside over the important events in the village. In the Qing Dynasty, ancestral temples were banned for some time. In order to protect the temple, the villagers dedicated their lives to Confucius and Guan Gong in the back seat. At that time, there was a couplet in the temple: "Benevolence is everywhere. "City of Wei Town"-The first couplet "Ren" refers to Confucius, and the second couplet "Wei" refers to Guan Yunchang. There used to be many couplets here, but now most of them have been dismantled. Among them, there is a couplet: "Rising Sun Zhanzhujiangyuan meets Xiangpu Shimen, and the four seas share the emperor's land;" Jinlong sent Hongqiao, Li 'an and Qian Qiu to Ren Wei for a bath. In the Second Opium War, foreign enemies invaded, so they resumed the group training here to resist "foreign invasion". "In fact, Ren Wei Temple has become an important stronghold for Guangzhou to fight against foreign invaders in the late Qing Dynasty.
Historically, Ren Wei Temple has always been a place for people who believe in Taoism to carry out religious activities in western Guangzhou and Nanhai, Panyu and Shunde. After the founding of New China, the religious activities of Ren Wei Temple continued. After the "Cultural Revolution", Ren Wei Temple was restored, and Taoist believers in Guangzhou repeatedly demanded that it be restored as a place for Taoist activities. From June, 5438 to February, 2002, with the approval of Guangzhou and Liwan District governments, Ren Wei Temple was handed over to Guangzhou Taoist Association and opened to the public as a place for religious activities. Ren Wei Temple became the fourth Dojo registered and opened by the government after Sanyuan Palace, Wong Tai Sin Temple and Chunyang Temple.
1993 was designated as a municipal cultural relics unit by Guangzhou municipal government in August.
Walking all the way from Qian Jie, Ren Wei Temple in the northeast of Liwan Lake Park, through the streets and alleys, and squeezing through many booths under the low eaves, a thousand-year-old temple, Ren Wei Temple, is in sight. There is a lake in front of the temple, and the middle table stands upright. There are ancient houses on both sides, which seems to go back in time, making people wonder if they are in Guangzhou.
Historically, the Pantang area includes 18 towns and villages in Zhou 'en. Because the local villagers are famous for fishing and planting "water chestnut, lotus flower, mushroom, water chestnut and water chestnut" in the whole province, it is especially popular to offer sacrifices to Emperor Xuanwu in order to be grateful and invite blessings, and to relieve disasters and reduce disasters. Xuanwu is a combination of snakes and turtles. It is the ancient northern god of China. It is also known as the square yuan god with Qinglong, Baihu and Suzaku. Because water lives in the north and Emperor Wudi is in charge of water, people call Xuanwu the Northern Emperor and the Water God. Later, it was widely circulated among the people. There are two brothers in Gupantang Township, one is Ren and the other is Wei. One day, when they went fishing, they found a strange stone and took it home as an idol. Unexpectedly, since then, they have had a smooth journey and their lives have been well applied. They are rich and happy, and find "idols" more elusive. This happy strange thing spread in the countryside. People who heard the news and were excited rushed to tell each other, and believers gathered. Many people visited Ren Weiyan, so the villagers responded with one voice and simply raised funds to build the "Ren Wei Temple". -Legend of the Temple of Ren Wei.
According to "Continued Revision of Nanhai County Records", Ren Wei Temple was built in Song Dynasty (1052), and it was built on a large scale in succession in the years of tomorrow, Qingganlong and Tongzhi. Before the reconstruction in the Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty, only the first three rooms in the middle road and the west sequence were built, and the last two rooms and the east sequence were added in the Qianlong period. Most notably, the foundation stone laying and construction of Ren Wei Temple were donated by the villagers in eighteen towns in Pantang! This is the hall of blessings and souls built by the people themselves!
Ren Wei Temple is a typical architectural style of Ming and Qing Dynasties, which pays attention to magnificence and is the crystallization of various carving arts in China. Its main building is slightly trapezoidal, covering an area of 2200 square meters, facing south. The wood carving in the temple is very beautiful. The head door is made into a wooden carving craft component, and the auspicious patterns are carved and golden. The top is the Wushan Wind Volcano Wall. The main ridge is the tile ridge of pottery figurines shaped by Shiwan Wenru, with the words "Tongzhi Ding Mao" on it. Its exquisite wood carving, rough stone carving and clear brick carving were once known as "Gui Dian Lan Palace". -the architectural art of Ren Wei Temple.
The eighth day of the second lunar month is the birthday of Ren Wei Temple every year. During the temple fair, the activities in the village are colorful, like a grand religious festival, and everyone will take endless and tireless soul baths, such as incense, incense and singing eight tones.
It is said that Ren Wei Temple is the oldest and most magnificent temple in Zhou En 18 towns, covering an area of more than 500 mu, and there is a big pond in front of the temple. There are many couplets in the temple, including "the rising sun at the source of the Pearl River connects the Xiangpu Shimen with the geographical location, and the golden dragon connects the water with Li Hongqiao to bathe in Ren Wei for generations"; There is also a pair of couplets, such as "Benevolence is everywhere, the three cities of Wei Town" (the first couplet refers to Confucius, the second couplet refers to Confucius), which are all classics, as if benevolence and Wei are both hard and soft, and they are each other's appearance. Looking forward to chewing, people have whimsy; Whether it is a happy day or a lonely day, an ordinary day or an important day, a happy day or a sad day, a harvest day or a famine day ... Ren Wei Temple always silently welcomes kind men and women who come to burn incense and worship God. They pray for good luck and good luck; They pray for peace and good weather ... the fascinating realm is that there is a large lotus pond floating with fragrance outside the temple, and pink flowers bloom gracefully in the wind, smiling and nodding at people; In the incense burner in the temple, a circle of smoke rises, and strange incense permeates the room. The misty and elegant smoke is covered with a soft layer of light and fog ... this atmosphere is like the Mohist school of ancient celebrities! However, it is a kind of reed for rural people. Even if you can't spend a long time with many suffering beings, it is enough to become a spiritual home to support people's livelihood beliefs.
Misty rain enveloped the lotus pond in front of Ren Wei Temple. In the hot years when the soul is haggard, the image of the temple is in ruins. Water without ripples drowned the ripples of prayer, leaving only the ashes of the temple, swaying around and breathing sadly. In the 1920s, Sun Ke was the mayor of Guangzhou. The villagers were afraid of commandeering the temple, so they turned the temple hall in Ren Wei into a school. By the early days of the People's Republic of China, the amateur school for workers and peasants, the No.1 Central Primary School in Xicun, Pantang Primary School and some houses had been set up as Pantang Street Police Station. In the 1960 s, when the revolution took place, the police station was cancelled and a plastic factory was simply set up in the temple ... The fate of a temple was teetering in the wind and rain, and it could not survive like waste utilization. And those "revolutionary teenagers" who broke capitalism simply smashed the gods in the temple without mercy. Fortunately, in order to protect the beautifully carved beams and columns of Ren Wei Temple, the villagers in Pantang covered the beams and columns with plaster overnight, so that these exquisite folk art works can be preserved. It was not until August 1983 that the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government "rehabilitated" the unfair treatment of Ren Wei Temple and announced it as a municipal cultural relics protection unit. Nowadays, the temple, with its incense in its heyday, is gradually recovering its original historical features and elegant demeanor.
There is a Ren Wei Temple in Xiguan, Guangzhou. It is said that it was built in Song You for four years and has a history of more than 900 years. This is a temple dedicated to the Taoist Zhenwu Emperor, but why do people call it Ren Wei Temple? There is a touching legend here.
In the early Song Dynasty, there were two brothers in the village, one named Ren and the other named Wei. Their parents died of illness when they were young. Thanks to the food distributed by the neighbors, they grew up. Two adult brothers make a living by fishing. Although they are poor, they get along well. They went out early and came back late, sold some of the fish they caught and gave some to their neighbors, which won everyone's praise.
One day, as usual, two brothers went out fishing in the gray morning fog. Suddenly, the sky was overcast and there was a big wave on the calm sea. The two brothers quickly closed their nets and sailed back. When they returned to the village, the village was all over Wang Yang. People who escaped from nature stood by the water bank crying, and the bodies of pigs, chickens, dogs and other animals could be seen everywhere on the water. After two days and two nights, the flood gradually receded. Aren and awei were very sad about the disaster in the village. They decided to look for the treasure that could save the village. One day, a big stone appeared on the coast where they went fishing. This stone is rectangular and looks like a long dragon attached to it. The two brothers thought the stone was unusual and were overjoyed, so they took it back to the village. When they carried the big stone to the village head, it suddenly became so heavy that five or six people couldn't carry it. So the villagers burned incense on the stone at the head of the village, bowed down and prayed for peace. Since then, there has really never been a flood in the village, and everyone lives in peace and has a bumper harvest every year. /kloc-one noon after 0/0 years, the sun was shining, and suddenly there was a thunder in the sky, which split the unusual stone at the head of the village in two. It happened that on this day, everyone didn't see Ah Ren come back from fishing. The next day and the third day, everyone looked around and couldn't find their whereabouts. Since then, the two brothers have never returned to the village. Everyone thinks that they moved Wang Hailong's jewels, were punished by Wang Hailong and were buried in the sea.
To commemorate the two brothers, a temple was built at the head of the village, and the stone split in half was used as a doorpost. This temple was named Ren Wei Temple after two brothers. Since then, Ren Wei Temple has become a place where people burn incense, worship Buddha, perform operas and get together for festivals.
