Linxia City is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture in Gansu Province.

Linxia City is located in the upper reaches of the Yellow River and southwest of Gansu Province. It is the seat of Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture and the political, economic, cultural and commercial center of the whole state. It is 7 kilometers away from the provincial capital Lanzhou1/KLOC-0, with a total area of 88.6 square kilometers and a built-up area of 24 square kilometers. The city borders dongxiang county in the east and Linxia County in the northwest, with a length of 20 kilometers from east to west and a width of 4.4 kilometers from north to south.

It is a typical river valley with narrow terrain, with an average elevation of1917m. Judging from the pottery unearthed from the Neolithic cultural sites excavated in the city, as early as 5 thousand years ago, there were ancestors living here. Qiang people lived in the city before the Qin Dynasty, and Hou Jian County was destroyed in the Qin Dynasty, which was the beginning of setting up a county for this purpose. In the Western Han Dynasty, it was transferred to Longxi County, Han Jian.

During the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Liang Qian and Zhang Jun divided Hezhou and ruled Han and Han. The former Qin dynasty took Han, and the state moved to Han. Over the next hundred years, ten countries, such as North and South Liang, Zhao, Western Qin and Xia, successively fell, and the political power changed several times, and the organizational system was abolished several times.
