Who is enshrined in Anguo Wang Yao Temple?

Wang Yao Temple in Anguo is dedicated to Tong Pi, a native of the Eastern Han Dynasty.

Anguo Wang Yao Temple was built in Jianwu period of Eastern Han Dynasty and newly built in Northern Song Dynasty. The sacrificial figure in the temple is Tong Pi, one of the 28 generals under Liu Xiu, Emperor Guangwu of Han Dynasty. He is politically honest and good at medicine. He often practices medicine among the people and has won the support of the people. After death, he was buried in Nanguan, Anguo. According to legend, Tong Pi "appeared" in the Song Dynasty, which cured the ills of the King of Song and Qin, so this temple was built for him. The word "Wang Yao Temple" on the forehead of the temple gate was inscribed by Liu Yong, a great scholar in Qing Dynasty.

The whole building covers an area of 25 mu and is divided into four courtyards, two courtyards and a square, with a total of 17 single buildings. There are two iron flagpoles in front of the temple, which contain the tomb of the King of Medicine, ten famous medical statues, the main hall of the King of Medicine, the sleeping hall and so on. It is the largest existing ancient architectural complex in China to commemorate the ancient medical saints and a state-level cultural relics protection unit.
