Movie title: I am Olga

This film is adapted from a real event, 1973. On July 10, a 22-year-old woman Olga drove a truck to the sidewalk and deliberately ran over a pedestrian, killing 8 people and injuring several others. After finishing the crime, she sat quietly in the car, lit a cigarette and said to the police,' I did it on purpose.'

Before committing the crime, she sent letters to two newspapers, which were full of her motives. She claims to be a victim of bullying, and the upper class will never reflect. I am an unsociable person, but society will treat me cruelly.

In court, she insisted that the judge sentence herself to death instead of letting her soul be forgiven. Olga said,' If I am hanged by you, my crime will be of higher value.'

Olga swallowed ten sleeping pills as a child and tried to commit suicide, but failed. Her mother said to her,' suicide requires a strong will, my child, and you don't have such a thing.'

Later, she was sent to a children's mental hospital, where she was not properly treated and even bullied. She can't establish a normal relationship with others, and her lover always leaves her.

The poor growth experience made Olga completely unable to integrate into society as an adult. Her work always ends in being fired. Even if she didn't neglect her duty at work, her employer always fired her because she didn't fit in. In a psychotherapy session, Olga said to the doctor, "Society is an inanimate substance and meaningless."

In reality, Olga's crime has aroused widespread concern and reflection in society. Some people say that she suffers from Asperger's syndrome, and her defense lawyer says that she suffers from schizophrenia. Some people think that she is a poor victim, and there are political factors in her trial, which leads to her not getting a fair trial.

Some people regard her as a hero and agree with her motives. Maybe this filthy society should welcome his revenge now.

After watching the movie, I went to check the real case. The film basically restores the facts with fragmented narrative techniques and cold narrative style, but downplays the fact that Olga is mentally ill. Olga has great influence throughout the Czech Republic. After decades, she is still the source of inspiration for many works.
