Mozi's fortune-telling book recommendation

How to read Mozi?

If there are many ancient books in the world that are difficult to understand, Mozi is definitely one of them.

I began to understand Mohism in junior high school. To tell the truth, when I first read Mozi, I was really puzzled-not only was the whole article written in classical Chinese (because the articles written by Mohism were similar to argumentative or expository articles, which were difficult to understand), but there was no flowery description, and it felt like reading an instruction.

Perhaps because many translations are inaccurate, it is more difficult to understand the essence of Mohism.

But why do we have to read Mozi?

Because there are many geniuses in this world that make you despair. They are like travelers from the future. Mozi is such a person. He lived in that era, but he surpassed it. The schools and ideas created by such people have flowed in our genes, but many times we don't realize that we want to be such people, so we must understand their thoughts.

What we want to introduce here is how to read the book Mozi.

First of all, we should know that Mozi was first included in Hanshu Yiwenzhi. There were 7 1 at that time. By the time it was included in Daozang in Qing Dynasty, there were only 53 articles left. Therefore, the book Mozi, which we are seeing now, is all because of the preservation of Mohist classics by Taoism, so that Mohist theory can be spread to this day. Thanks to Taoism!

For this book, we recommend the version translated and annotated by Mr. Yong Fang published by Zhonghua Book Company. The first time you read Mozi, you can read the translation first, and then compare it with the original if you are interested. The main purpose is to understand the ideological realm of Mohism, not the truth of every sentence.

Opening warm-up:

I think the first article I should read most is Dye. When Wei Zhi was angry with Emperor Taizong, he said a very famous sentence: "Success or failure lies in dyeing." Mozi said in the article "Dyeing" that "those who dye in the pale are pale, and those who dye in the yellow are yellow". It is emphasized that we should be cautious about dyeing and weaving, carefully choose the surrounding environment, associate with excellent people, and the king should be close to talented people in order to govern the country well.

Ten propositions of Mohism:

After reading this article, you will feel that the Mohist thought is actually very close to our life, and then look at universal love, mutual non-aggression, Shang Xian, Shang Tong, unhappiness and saving the world. Finally, look at these articles, which is equivalent to the ten propositions of Mohist school. You can read more about these articles. After reading the top ten propositions, you can read Non-Confucianism. There are a few points to understand. First of all, we should understand why Mohism wanted universal love, and what was the social background at that time? What is the concept of non-attack realization? Shang Tong and Shang Xian are the talent selection system and organizational system that echo each other. Destiny and ambition are contradictory, but we can look at them separately, and the rest can only understand the general meaning.

Mohist school will do what it says, and what it does will bear fruit;

Then, you can look at these articles: Geng Xu, Refutation, Meng Gong, Lu Wen and Gong Bo, which are quite interesting, because there are many stories about Mohism. For example, "Gong Bo Ji" is a story that Mohist prevented Chu from attacking Song Dynasty, which can be said to be the practice of Mohist thought of not attacking Song Dynasty.

Mohist self-cultivation:

Secondly, you can read the first six articles from Dear Scholars to Three Arguments. Because these articles, including Ran Ran, are controversial, and some say that they were not written by Mohism, but in any case, their theories and thoughts are all contained in the book Mozi, and we still have to read it.

Mohists's scientific achievements;

Then you can read six articles, including classics, classics, Daqu and Xiaoqu. Some people say that these six articles are not Mohist either. So, there is no Mohist in Mozi? You wrote it all, okay? Personally, I think this is the Mohist values and worldview, and it also matches many Mohist ideas.

It records many achievements in optics, mechanics and engineering, as well as the logic of Mohism, which is the highest level of Mohism in science and technology and also the highest level of its contemporaries. This aspect is difficult to understand, unless you are interested in these partners, you can read through the translation.

Mohist art of war:

The core of Mohist art of war lies in "prevention", and the core of prevention lies in "preparation". Eleven articles, from preparing the city gate, preparing the high surface to miscellaneous guarding, all recorded the methods of Mohist guarding the city and preparing the enemy during the Warring States period. Different from Sun Tzu's Art of War, Mohism was the highest state of guarding the city during the Warring States Period. It has not only macro strategic thinking, but also micro tactical methods and specific measures to defend the city. It introduces Mohist equipment inventions in great detail, such as "family car", "crossbow car" and "shooting machine", from guarding city strategy to personnel arrangement, equipment arrangement and logistics arrangement. It is an encyclopedia of guarding the city.

The book Mozi represents the ideological achievements of Mohism, and also shows us that there really was such a school in that era, which used its own strength to change the world for universal love and war prevention.

Mohism is the earliest practitioner and the earliest scientific and technological organization. It is the origin of chivalry and a part of our Chinese culture.

This era needs Mohist spirit.
