Swimming slowly under the water, eat small fish, shrimp, aquatic insects, aquatic annelids, zooplankton and algae. And there are similar cannibalism. When the water temperature reaches 22 ~ 28℃ in spring, young fish with body length 10 ~ 25mm will return to the river in droves, forming a fish tide. In the early stage, the individuals are small, light yellow and uniform in size, while in the later stage, the individuals are large, dark in color and unequal in size. The breeding period is from April to June.

The spawning population is mainly 2-year-old fish with a body length of 37 ~ 39 mm, and a small number of 3-year-old fish with a body length of about 70 mm, and the number of pregnant eggs is 1000 ~ 17000. The diameter of the egg is 0.4 ~ 0.6 mm, and the fertilized egg is attached to gravel or other hard objects with sticky silk to hatch.
