Shen Meng, an old monk, was born in July 19 15. He was born in Kaitong County, Heilongjiang Province, China, and joined the Jiangwutang Military Academy in Northeast China from June 1928.

He became a monk in Beijing on 193 1. His dharma name was Awakener, but he thought that there was no Awakener, because he became a monk because of dreaming, so he was named "Mengcan". After the abstinence period was completed, he went south to Jiuhuashan Tibetan Bodhisattva Dojo by courtesy and opened the body pagoda of Tibetan Bodhisattva in the once-in-60-year dharma meeting.
