Tunchang is a county directly under Hainan Province.

Tunchang is a municipality directly under the central government of Hainan Province, located at the junction of the northern plain and the central mountainous area. It is the only hilly area in the province, bordering Ding 'an County and qionghai city in the east, Qiongzhong County in the south and Chengmai County in the northwest, and is known as the "gateway to central Hainan". Tunchang is 70 kilometers away from Haikou, and the expressway takes about 45 minutes.

Tunchang has 55km national highway, 25km provincial highway, 126km county road and 425km village road, with a total length of 63 1km. The main tourist attractions in Tunchang are Mujie Lake Scenic Area, Jialetan Tourist Resort and Yushuling Ecological Park.

Historical evolution:

Tunchang is a newly established county. Its predecessor was announced by Qiongya District Party Committee at the second executive committee meeting on February 1948. Xinmin County is composed of two districts of Chengmai County (now Xichang Township, Tunchang) and six districts of Qiongshan County (now Xinxing Town, Datong Township, Tunchang Town, Huangling Township, Tengzhai Township and Nankun Town). 1On February 2, 949, Dingxi Special Zone was established in Lu Nan, Wupo, Mu Feng, Beihai and Lingmen Township (equivalent to county-level organizational system).

1950 In May, Dingxi Special Zone was merged into Xinmin County. With the same name as Xinmin County in Liaoning Province, 1952, the State Council renamed Xinmin County as "Tunchang" for the convenience of management. Tunchang Municipal People's Government in Tunchang Town. According to legend, Tunchang was originally a wasteland, and there were frequent wars in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties.
