The origin of Hanzhong's name: Hanzhong is named after Hanshui River.

In the Tang Dynasty, the Liangzhou General Government was established, and later it was changed to the Dudufu, which was composed of Liangzhou, Xing, Yang and Ji. In the first year of Zhenguan, the abandoned government set up a road, and Hanzhong belonged to Shannan Road. In the 21st year of Kaiyuan, Shannan Road was divided into east and west roads, Hanzhong was Shannan West Road, and Daozhi was located in Hanzhong.

In the first year of Tianbao, Hanzhong County, Yangchuan County and Shunzheng County were established. Later changed to Liangzhou, Yangzhou and Xingzhou. In the first year of Xingyuan, Tang Dezong avoided the chaos of Zhu Qi, and forced him to Liangzhou.

It is the first time in the history of China that Liangzhou was changed to Xingyuan House, and Tao and Fu jointly ruled Nanzheng. Xingyuan House is the same as Chang 'an in Kyoto, Luoyang in the east and Taiyuan in the north.

During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, the former Shu, the later Tang Dynasty and the later Shu successively occupied Hanzhong, and still established Xingyuan County, Waizhou and xing zhou. From the Northern Song Dynasty to Daoguang for three years, Xingyuan Prefecture and Yangzhou and Xing Xing were located in Xiaxi Road. In the fifth year of Xining, the state road and Xingyuan mansion were established, and Hanzhong was established in all places. Lizhou Road governs the areas south of Qinling Mountains and north of Yangtze River.
