The Historical Origin of Yongfeng Tower

It was started in the last week (95 1-960) and completed in the northern song dynasty (960- 1 127). It has been more than 1000 years, and it is still intact after floods and earthquakes. Climb the tower in the morning and look out. The mountains in the east are misty and sunny. There is a Confucian Temple Dacheng Hall in the north, which is magnificent. There are lotus pagodas and stone bridges near Yongfeng Pagoda, and the scenery is very beautiful.

According to Juye County Records, the pagoda was originally located in Ruyu County in front of the Big Buddha Temple. During the Tang and Song Dynasties, the Great Buddha Temple in Fiona Fang covered an area of more than 20 mu. There were pagodas in the west of the temple and Buddhist scriptures were hidden in the pagodas. The Buddhist temple is magnificent in architecture, with carved beams and painted buildings. The Buddha statue is full of vitality, lifelike, with bells and smoke in the tomb. It is an ancient tourist attraction. During the Song and Yuan Dynasties, the commercial downtown area of Jeju City was north of Yongfeng Tower, with theaters, restaurants, restaurants and hotels. Every day, you can hear the voices of storytellers, singers, boxers and artists, and the voices of gongs and drums and orchestras are endless. Whenever there was a meeting in ancient times, merchants gathered, traffic was busy, bustling and very lively.

Because stupa originated in ancient India and other countries where Buddhism prevailed, the ancients also called it stupa or Brahma. Ming Jiajing's supervisor Ma said in a poem: "Why is the pagoda built?" . ……"

The word "Fanta Zhao Hui" in Juye County annals came from this, and it was named "Yongfeng", which means "the country is prosperous and the people are safe, and the grain is abundant".

As can be seen from Ma's five-character poems, before the Ming Dynasty, the construction age of Yongfeng Tower was still inconclusive. Today, there are still various sayings circulating. Some say that the two floors at the bottom of the tower are seriously damaged and are very old, which should be in the early Tang Dynasty. Some say that the newly edited book Heze Place Names records: "It was built in the Five Dynasties and Zhou Dynasties"; The new book "History of Southwest Shandong" says: "It was built in the Northern Song Dynasty". "Juye County Records" contains: This tower "was built on behalf of the Tang people, and it ends without a tip"; Before the founding of the People's Republic of China, the words "Great Song Renzong was built in the first year of Hehe" on the wooden pillar of the spire proved that the tower was built in the Northern Song Dynasty.

In recent years, after repeated investigation, analysis and demonstration by provincial, prefectural and county archaeologists, it seems that all kinds of statements are reasonable. Judging from the differences between the old and the new and the different structures of the lower two floors and the upper three floors, it seems to be an intergenerational building. Preliminary conclusion: (1) was built in the Five Dynasties Zhou Dynasty. It was not built because of its short age. After the Northern Song Dynasty, the tower was built continuously, which made it complete. (2) The tower was built here in the Tang Dynasty, but it stopped before reaching the top of the tower, which lasted from the Five Dynasties to the Northern Song Dynasty.

According to Common Sense of Ancient History in China (part of historical geography) and Ancient Pagodas in Shandong written by Shandong archaeologist Bi Baoqi, there are about 3,000 ancient pagodas in China at present, including nearly 300 in Shandong. Except for a few people in the Sui and Tang Dynasties, most of these towers were built hundreds of years after the tenth century, especially in the Northern Song Dynasty. During the Song and Jin Dynasties, the towers were mostly octagonal in shape, with seven to thirteen levels (there were also five levels in the Five Dynasties) and tall in shape.
