Why did Kangxi visit Jiangnan six times?

In fact, the purpose of Kangxi's six trips to the south of the Yangtze River was to govern the river, guide the Huai River and help the economy. But now some novels, movies and TV plays spread out the facts and discredit them speciously in order to be more entertaining.

As early as the early years of Kangxi, he attached great importance to river affairs and had considerable research. In the early years of Kangxi, the lower reaches of the Yellow River burst everywhere and floods occurred again and again. Successive floods attracted great attention from Kangxi. Kangxi used to take an examination of Gong's family in the Hall of Supreme Harmony, aiming at harnessing the river. When it was still difficult to pacify the finances of the "San Francisco" countries, Emperor Kangxi made up his mind to comprehensively manage the Yellow River and Huaihe River.

However, a few months later, the river worker encountered another problem. The Yellow River and Huaihe River have once again experienced a surge that has not happened for many years, which has caused many dams in Gugoutang, Hanjiazhuang, Qingshuigou and other places to burst and flood. Emperor Kangxi was very angry when he learned the news, and immediately issued an edict that "I want to see Gao Jiayan in person this spring". So Kangxi and his courtiers discussed a new scheme for river regulation-the Huai River Slipping Scheme. Emperor Kangxi was very uneasy about the Huaihe River valve project. He felt that if something went wrong in such a big project, people and money would be wasted and the consequences would be unimaginable. So in the forty-sixth year of Kangxi, Kangxi made his sixth southern tour.

Kangxi visited the south of the Yangtze River six times, mainly to see the dikes and understand the sufferings of the people's livelihood in the southeast. He is frugal every time, and in most cases he visits privately, without disturbing or harassing the local people.
