Where does Wusu belong?

Wusu City is located in Tacheng City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China (PRC) (China).

Wusu City, located in the south and west of Tacheng area, is a key area of Yili, Tacheng and Altay, an important gateway of Horgos, Baktu and Alashankou ports, and forms a "golden triangle" in northern Xinjiang with Dushanzi, a national petrochemical base, and Kuitun, a new commercial city.

Wusu City is located on the northern slope of Tianshan Mountain, 260 kilometers east of Urumqi, the capital of the autonomous region, and is an important hub of the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt. Wusu has a long history, dating back to the Qin Dynasty. Both Tang and Qing dynasties set up jurisdiction here, which was called Wusu County in 2 years of the Republic of China. 1996 County was withdrawn to build a city, which was called Wusu City.

Wusu, formerly known as "Kulka Wusu", was once the territory of Mongolian Heshuote tribe in ancient times. The Mongolian word "black water in snowy areas" was incorporated into the territory of the motherland as early as the Western Han Dynasty. Later Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing all stationed troops here. The northern part of Wusu City is shaped like a giant basin, and the Jiulian Spring in the lotus pond is rippling with beautiful grass, ducks and fish.

Since the early years of the Qing Dynasty, there has been a prosperous ancient post station located on this beautiful coast. The court officials and merchants from east to west saw the beauty and charm of the West Lake in Hangzhou, and they all called it the new "West Lake" in the frontier.

Wusu is located in the southwest of Junggar Basin, spanning two geomorphic units, namely Junggar Basin and North Tianshan Mountain. With the elevation rising from north to south, the climate in a small area changes from dry and semi-dry to wet, and the zonality of climate and landform is quite different, with obvious vertical zoning and diverse landform types.

Geomorphology of Wusu City

The northern Junggar basin is mainly composed of alluvial plains, a considerable part of which is semi-desert; The middle part is the transition zone from basin to mountain, which consists of alluvial-diluvial inclined plain and dry and denuded low mountain. The southern part is North Tianshan Mountain, which consists of dry denudation mountain, erosion denudation mountain, periglacial mountain and glacier mountain.

The Tianshan Mountains in the territory are a part of the northern slope of the middle part of the northern Tianshan Mountains, including the northern slope of the western section of Gashan in Khabir and the northern slope of the eastern section of Polokuno. Junggar basin consists of two parts: the southern alluvial plain and the northern alluvial plain. Some flat plains are dry and bare plains, which have formed semi-deserts.
