Are there any landmarks or historical buildings in the old city of Shantou?

Experts agree that Hu Wenhu Tower should be protected as the 20th century cultural heritage of Shantou.

Hu Wenhu Tower was once a landmark building with a long history in the old city of Shantou, located in minzu road. It used to be the tallest building in Shantou, and it became a major architectural landscape of Shantou at that time with its novel shape and magnificent momentum. It is understood that the tender for road widening project in minzu road was completed in June 2007. According to relevant planning, Hu Wenhu Building is 8 meters beyond the planning red line of minzu road 14.55 meters and Ruiping Road, and almost the whole building is within the red line of road construction. Because Hu Wenhu Building has not been a cultural relic protection unit, it has not been listed as a "reserved building" in all previous urban master plans of Shantou City.

Recently, the reporter came to the front of Hu Wenhu Building and saw that this well-preserved building is still distinguished. Chen Hanchu, chairman of the Municipal Social Science Association, believes that Hu Wenhu Tower is the representative of Shantou's early architecture and the symbol of a century-old commercial port. There are few buildings that can represent the history of Shantou. Hu Wenhu Building is well preserved now, so we can't "tear it down" easily, because the value of the old building is irreplaceable.

The other two quaint and elegant old buildings, Xiangyuan and Zhenyuan, are located at 13 1 and 167 respectively, which are also landmark buildings.

Through expert appraisal at the provincial level, Hu Wenhu Building, Xiangyuan Garden and Zhenyuan Garden are expected to be approved and announced as municipal cultural relics protection units.

There are also No.2 Waima Road in the old city of Shantou, Guangdong, the "Customs Bell Tower", a small park pavilion and a department store as landmark buildings for Shantou's opening.
