Why do people worship Buddha without facing south?

There is no bodhisattva in the south, so we have to go north.

In ancient times, the south was revered, and worshipping Buddha was also to show piety.

The ancients believed that everything in the world was composed of five elements: gold, wood, water, fire and earth. Five aspects (East, South, West, North and Middle) are the application of the theory of "Yin-Yang and Five Elements" in astronomy. The ancients observed that the sun rises in the east every day, so there is relatively more sunshine in the east, which is beneficial to the growth of plants, so the east has become the representative of vibrant wood. It can also be seen from the ancient word creation that the middle part of the word "East" is the word "Day" and the word "Wood" runs through the word "Day". The west, which is opposite to the east, has become the representative of the golden nature of vitality. China is located in the northern hemisphere, where the south is hot and the north is cold, so the south represents fire and the north represents water. In the northern hemisphere, there is more sunshine in the south than in the north, so building a house in the northern hemisphere is the warmest in winter and the coolest in summer.

Respect for theocracy and kingship is another important reason. "Historical Records Biography of Duke Zhou of Lu" records: "When you become a king, you can listen to politics, so Duke Zhou is still in charge of politics. When you become king, you will be ruled by the Duke of Zhou, and you will be ruled by the prince in the south and the prince in the north. In seven years, you will be king and you will be a minister in the north. " In this paper, "South" refers to Zhou Wang's seat sitting facing south, and "North" refers to the minister sitting facing north, so that the top is South. This is consistent with a set of rites and music system created by the rulers at that time to safeguard their own rule and standardize all aspects of people's lives.
