"Smooth Road" and the Origin of Its Name

According to the Records of Cangzhou, the original tributary of the Guzhang River is in Cangzhou, so it is named "Luchang" because there are many reeds on the shore. Xiang County was established here in the Northern and Southern Dynasties in the second year (AD 580), which was named Luchang County (now Cangzhou City). In the fourth year of Xining in the Northern Song Dynasty (A.D. 107 1), Luchang County was abandoned and changed to Luchang Town. In the second year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (AD 1369), a salt transportation company was established in Changludu, Hejian. Mainly manage the transportation and sales of salt and salt tax in Hebei Province. The company was named "Luchang" because its residents are in Luchang Town. Since then, Hebei's salt areas have had the title of "smooth roads". The predecessor of this field, "Shibei Field", was named after Shibei Village in Matouying Town was the first to set up a field office. The origin of the name of Daqing Salt Field is because the site is located on the west bank of Daqing River in Laoting County. Luchang salt area has a long history of development. As early as the Ming Dynasty, Luchang Town, Cangxian County set up a transshipment ambassador to manage the saltworks, which was in charge of sea salt production in Hebei Province. In the Qing Dynasty, although this institution was moved to Tianjin, it was always called Luchang Salt Area. The beach here is wide and the bottom is covered with sediment, which is conducive to opening up salt fields; Windy and rainy, abundant sunshine and strong evaporation are conducive to seawater concentration; The salt people here are good at using favorable meteorological factors such as humidity, temperature and wind speed, and have rich experience in drying sea salt. These conditions provide a good foundation for the large-scale development of salt industry in this saltworks.
