Why is chopsticks turning back a big taboo on the table?

Chopsticks are square at one end and round at the other. The square symbolizes the earth (a Kun hexagram), and the circle symbolizes the sky (a dry hexagram). Generally, holding chopsticks is to hold the handle of chopsticks in your hand and hold the food with the head of chopsticks. Kun is going up and down. This is the divination of Di Tiantai, which is smooth and auspicious.

If you use it upside down, hold the chopstick head in your hand, hold the food with the chopstick handle, dry it on the top, and let it dry on the bottom. This is the divination of heaven and earth (pǐ), which means blocked. So chopsticks can't be used backwards.

Usage etiquette of chopsticks:

1. Don't point at people with chopsticks or fingers when eating.

2. Don't insert chopsticks into a bowl of rice or rice. This is the way the ancestral offerings are placed, which is ominous. See the end of the meal.

Don't compete with other people's chopsticks.

4. Don't move chopsticks in front of the host when going to dinner (the same is true for spoons).

In some countries, we will wait for the guests (or the oldest person present) to start eating.
