What do the Buddha's gestures represent?

Buddha's gesture is also a handprint. There are five kinds of common seals, namely, saying seal, fearless seal, willing seal, magic seal and meditation seal, namely "five seals of Sakyamuni".

Declare the seal: twist your thumb with your middle finger (or index finger and ring finger), and the other fingers will naturally relax.

Fearless seal: bend your arms around your chest, stretch your fingers naturally, and palm out. This handprint represents the Buddha's merciful desire to help all beings. It is said that it can make all beings feel at ease and fearless, so it is called fearless seal.

And the wish seal: the hand naturally reaches down, the fingertips droop, and the palms are outward, indicating that the Buddha and Bodhisattva can satisfy the wishes of all beings and make the wishes prayed by all beings come true. This is printed with the meaning of compassion, so it is often combined with Shiwei seal.

Meditation seal: put your hands back to your abdomen, put your right hand on your left hand and connect the tips of your thumbs. This handprint means meditation and inner peace. It is said that Sakyamuni Buddha used this posture when he meditated under the bodhi tree and practiced Taoism.
