What does twenty-eight nights mean?

Twenty-eight stars means: seven stars in each direction, east, west, north and south.

1, the east is called Qinglong: Jiaomujiao, Kang Jinlong, Nyctereute, Fangri Rabbit, Xinyue Fox, Tail Fire Tiger and Jishui Leopard;

2. The South called Suzaku: Muan Jing, Ghost Golden Sheep, Six Rabbit's Palm, Stellar Horse, Zhang Yuelu, Winged Fire Snake and Pheasant;

3, known as the White Tiger in the west: Shu Mu Wolf, Lou Jin Dog, Stomach Pheasant, Chicken, Bi, Gunfire Monkey,;

4. The north is called Xuanwu: unicorn, ox and Taurus, female bat, rising sun mouse, dangerous moon swallow, room fire pig and wall water goose.

The Origin of Twenty-eight Hostels

Because of age, the origin of the 28-star is still inconclusive. The earliest record is the lacquer box of the tomb of Zeng Houyi in the Warring States period unearthed in Suixian County, which records the complete names of the 28 stars.

Twenty-eight stars are a circle of stars that divide the stars in the southern transit into twenty-eight groups and distribute along the equator of the ecliptic or celestial sphere, including horns, swells, cymbals, houses, hearts, tails, dustpans, barrels, cows, women, asthenia, danger, rooms, walls, chests, stomachs, cymbals, bi and qi.
