What dialect is spoken in Guangdong?

There are mainly three dialects in Guangdong, namely Guangzhou dialect, Hakka dialect and Min dialect. There are many languages in northern Guangdong, eastern Guangdong and western Guangdong, such as Yao language, Zhuang language, She language, standard dialect and Chinese dialects with unknown ownership, such as Lao Huazheng, Military dialect and Shaozhou dialect (northern Guangdong dialect).

Cantonese, also known as Cantonese and Guangfu dialect, is commonly known as vernacular, and overseas is called Tang dialect. It is one of the seven dialects of tonal language and Chinese, and it is also the mother tongue of Guangfu people of Han nationality. Cantonese originated in the northern Central Plains (that is, Henan area). After a long period of language exchange, integration and adjustment, it matured in the Tang Dynasty and developed into the Song Dynasty, which is not far from modern Cantonese. It has complete nine tones and six tones, and retains more features of ancient Chinese.

Min dialect is a language title divided by region, not a language classification. In fact, the five major Chinese dialects referred to by Min Dialect are independent in language, namely, Northern Min Dialect, Southern Min Dialect, Eastern Min Dialect, Chinese Min Dialect and Puxian Dialect. Min dialect is distributed in 24 counties in southern Fujian, Chaoshan area in Taiwan Province Province and Guangdong Province, Leizhou Peninsula, Hainan Province and southern Zhejiang Province. Although there are great differences in Min dialect, mainly in phonology, there are still many similarities between them.

Hakka dialect is the main language used by Hakkas of Han nationality and one of the seven major dialects of Chinese. Informal occasions, also known as Hakka dialect, can be divided into Meizhou dialect, Huiyang dialect, Huizhou dialect, Heyuan dialect, Gannan dialect and Tingzhou dialect according to different accents. Some areas are also called Shuiyuanyin, Yayu, Xinmin dialect, Moge dialect, Cantonese (Tukan dialect), Huaiyuan dialect, Sixian dialect, Luhai dialect, Raoping dialect, Zhaoan dialect and Pingpo dialect.
