Brief introduction of Xi 'an Chenghuang Temple

It is a Han Temple building in Ming and Qing Dynasties, and it is one of the three largest city god temples in the world. It is as famous as the Chenghuang Temple in Beijing and Nanjing. Located on the east side of Daxie Lane, Xi West Street, it covers an area of about 1 1024 square meters and has a building area of about 4,466 square meters. It is a national key cultural relics protection unit. City God is one of the important gods generally worshipped in ancient Han religious culture, and most of them are served by famous ministers and heroes who have contributed to the local people. For more than 600 years, although it has experienced vicissitudes, it is still magnificent. Founded in the 20th year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1387), the original site is located in Jiuyao Street in Dongmen, and moved to the present site in the 8th year of Xuande in Ming Dynasty (1433), which governs several northwest provinces, hence the name "Chenghuang Temple". In the Qing dynasty, it was repeatedly built and destroyed. The temple is large in scale and divided into two parts: the temple and the Taoist temple. There is a main hall rebuilt in the first year of Yongzheng (1723). Glazed tiles are stuck on the eaves of the bucket arch, and various patterns are embossed on the doors and windows of the front eaves. Fine carving and exquisite design. There are statues of city god, judges and imps in the original temple, which are large in scale and beautifully decorated.
