The Historical Evolution of Xinmaqiao Town

Xinmaqiao is named after the first three words of the town name of Xinmaqiao, and the name of Xinmaqiao originated from Xinmaqiao Station. At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, a wooden bridge was built on the Donghe River in Miaopu to communicate with horses, named Maqiao, which was soon destroyed by the flood. In the twenty-fourth year of Hongwu, a stone bridge was built in its original place, renamed Ma Xu Bridge, which was later flooded (the bridge still exists today).
