1985, Mao won the first place in the second plum blossom award. His plays include Han Gong Complain and He Wenxiu Crying for Fortune-telling.

1994, Mao won the 11th Plum Blossom Award, which initiated the "Second Plum Blossom Award" in the field of China opera. Plays: Romance of the West Chamber, Lu You and Tang Wan.

In 2007, Mao won the 23rd Plum Blossom Award for his play butterfly lovers, creating the only "Three Plums" in Yue Opera.
