The Influence and Status of Yongkang Dialect

Due to historical factors and the influence of some natural environments, Yongkang's language use is relatively simple. Wuyi dialect in Wuyi county in the east of Yongkang is only slightly different from Pan 'an dialect and Yongkang dialect in Pan 'an county in the west, so Wuyi dialect and Pan 'an dialect can be regarded as the geographical and natural extension of Yongkang dialect. In the south of Yongkang, Jinyun County and the north bordering Yongkang, some people also use Yongkang dialect. Although the common Jinyun dialect in the county belongs to Jinqu dialect, it is quite different from Yongkang dialect and difficult to communicate directly. In this respect, it is similar to Yiwu dialect and Dongyang dialect.

Some linguists used to regard Yongkang dialect and Suzhou dialect as the representative languages of Wu dialects in North and South China, such as Yuan Jiahua's Outline of Chinese Dialects, and regarded Yongkang dialect as a typical representative of Wu dialects in South China.
