Characteristics of folk operas

Folk operas mostly use local dialects, which are cordial, lively and flexible. Generally, the role of a small play is "Erxiao"-and a clown, with "Ugliness" representing rural working men and "Dan" representing rural women. The whole play is sung and performed by Xiao Dan and the clown, so it is also called "duet" or "opposite play". For example, in "Couples Watching Lights", and Wang's wife went to see the lights on the fifteenth day of the first month, talking and singing along the way, reciting the names of various lights and describing the different expressions of people watching the lights, which was very vivid and interesting, and the audience felt cordial. Some of them are "three plays"-the characters are Xiao Dan and the clown, plus Xiao Sheng. Most of the "Xiao Sheng" are prodigals, hooligans, local ruffians, pedantic Confucian scholars, landlords and rich people. They are supporting roles in the play, and they are the object of ridicule by Xiao Dan and the clown. For example, Xue Xinxin in the duet "Wang Cheng Selling Bowls" belongs to the role of Xiao Sheng.
