History of He Wenxiu's Drama

He Wenxiu is a traditional repertoire of Yue Opera. There were two books and two nights of performances. The last book describes that He Wenxiu is the son of an official, and his father is a big official and a scholar. Later, Yan Song, a traitor, harmed the whole family, and only He Wenxiu escaped and made a living by singing Taoism. On that day, Wang Lanying's father celebrated his birthday and asked He Wenxiu to go home and sing and preach. When Wang Lanying saw that He Wenxiu was poor and handsome, he asked the maid to take him to the garden to meet him. At that time, out of sympathy and love, I gave him money to study and take exams. Who knows, Wang Fu ran into him, thinking that his daughter and the poor boy of Sang Daoqing had secretly married for life, which was insulting to the family, and put He Wenxiu and Wang Lanying into sacks and sank them into the water to be executed. The Queen Mother loved her daughters, secretly ordered the manager to lift the sacks and rescue them, and ordered them to escape to other places after marriage.

Their young husband and wife fled to Haining. Relying on the influence of Yan Song, Zhang Tang, the richest man in the local area, killed villagers and did many evils. He took a fancy to Wang Lanying and set up He Wenxiu. Later, He Wenxiu was rescued by the jailer and Yang's mother who opened a teahouse. This is the story of the last book.

The following books are famous "Visiting Wife in Sangyuan", "Crying Card for Fortune Telling" and "Reunion after Rape".

After He Wenxiu's second rescue, he went to Haining as an official. He found his wife's residence, and she happened to make him a three-Zhou Nianji. He didn't meet and know his wife immediately because Zhang Tang moved away, so he pretended to be a fortune teller and wrote a complaint for his wife. Finally, Zhang Tang was executed and the couple were reunited.

At first, the play was staged continuously. Later, because "Meat Head" (the wonderful part) was mainly in the second volume, it was often performed exclusively in the second volume.

Judging from the plot, the play has not got rid of the old-fashioned idea of "being in the garden when the victim is in trouble, and the gold medal list is happy". But it still involves the struggle between good and evil. Among them, "Visiting Wife in Sangyuan" and "Crying for Fortune Telling" are really unique and can be regarded as "an old play with bones". They are often performed and appreciated by the audience. They are very familiar with the plots and lead singers of these two plays.
