What are the five immortals?

The five immortals include fox fairy (fox), Huang Xian (weasel), white fairy (hedgehog), willow fairy (snake) and grey fairy (mouse). Folk worship of animals is mainly reflected in the worship of "five masters", which is a worship of demon fairy and also comes from animism. Five people are also called "Five Immortals", commonly known as "Fox, Yellow, White and Willow Ash" (or "Grey, Yellow, Fox and Bai Liu").

First, the fox

Fox fairy, that is, fox. Folk stories about fox spirits can be traced back to the Xia Dynasty. In this earliest folk story, there are rumors that Dayu actually married a white fox with nine tails, and Dayu and this white fox gave birth to the first monarch in China history.

In more folk rumors, it is generally believed that foxes are spiritual animals. They can become not only demons, but also immortals. More importantly, they can become people and marry people.

Second, Huang Xian.

Huang Xian, the weasel, is one of the four animals. Northeasters call weasels yellow skins. Huang Xian often sneaks into farmers' houses to steal chickens. An old man in the village said that once a weasel steals a chicken, don't beat and scold it and let it leave safely.

Because the weasel is a kind of animal with a grudge, once it is retaliated by human beings, it will retaliate against human beings. Huang Xian's most common means of revenge against mankind is to possess mankind. People who are possessed will be seriously damaged mentally and go crazy all day.

Third, Bai Xian.

The white fairy refers to the hedgehog. The white fairy, that is, the hedgehog, appeared late in the northeast. According to records, hedgehogs did not appear in Northeast China until the end of Ming Dynasty. Many northeastern families worship hedgehogs to ensure that their families have high income.

And these families usually serve meat, even steamed buns and boiled jiaozi, so they have to offer them to Bai Xian. Many people in Northeast China regard hedgehog as a god of wealth, and it is a mascot that can make families rich.

Fourth, Liu Xian.

Liu Xian means snake. The worship of snakes can be traced back a long time. It is believed that ancient gods, Fuxi and Nu Wa are all closely related to snakes. Because Fuxi and Nuwa are both heads, but their bodies are snakes.

Many people think that snakes are descendants of dragons according to their slender physical characteristics, and naturally represent auspicious symbols of dragons. In northeast folklore, people think that snakes are even more powerful than foxes, and they can transform into human forms and even make thoughtful objects.

Verb (short for verb) Grey Fairy

Grey fairy means mouse. In many parts of China, rats are regarded as representatives of putrefaction and are extremely tired of them. But in the eyes of some Northeasters, mice are a symbol of wisdom.

Because they can move freely in the dark, it is difficult for people to guess their tracks. Some people worship mice because they can predict what will happen in the future and bring wealth to their families.
