Why is Shucheng dialect called Daddy Da and Mama Ma Yi?

The word "da" is not only found in Shucheng dialect, but also in other provinces. This word is very common in Shucheng now, but it did not belong to Shucheng dialect. Shucheng's ancient dialect is very authentic, calling dad "grandpa" (pronounced a 1yi2, grandpa's pronunciation is generally short, don't pronounce it "aunt") and calling dad "grandpa".

"Grandpa" generally refers to people of the same generation as his father, such as: grandpa, grandpa, grandpa ..... (the youngest uncle can be called grandpa), and anyone older or younger than his father can be called "grandpa", which is a kind of respect for the elders! Usually, most rural people in Shucheng call their father "da 1da", while their older peers call him "(be2, which is not the E-sound in Putonghua, narrower than the E-sound in Putonghua),,, and" Da (kloc-0/,) ". Such as: sophomore, junior, senior ... [the youngest uncle is called "big boss (da 1)", and the boss is generally called "little boss (da 1)" when he is a minor].

In Shucheng dialect, Grandpa is called "di 1di", and in the southwest mountainous area of Shucheng, Grandpa is called "Little Chef of Hippo (zi 1zi)".

Ma 1yi2, like "da", is a foreign word. The word Ma Dama (which can also be written as "Ma Ye") is actually a tone sandhi of the word "Emma, Ma Ye", that is, adding a modal particle "Ah, Ye, Ah" after the word "Ma" has the function of linking! In Shucheng, when addressing someone's name, modal particles are always added after the name or address, such as: Grandpa A, Aunt Ma A, Xiaoguiza, Dalong A, Xiaza, Xiazai, Chuanbang A and Wangfang A. These modal particles change their pronunciation with the context, mainly to emphasize or strengthen the previous words!

Although there are many pronunciation differences between Shucheng dialect and Putonghua, the conversion between Shucheng dialect and Putonghua is regular! Many words with the same initials and finals in Putonghua are divided into two parts in Shucheng dialect: homophones with different initials and finals!
