The Historical Background of Dingyuan County

Dingyuan County is located in the east of Anhui Province, China, and belongs to Chuzhou City. It has a long history and rich cultural heritage.

According to historical records, Dingyuan County was founded in the Spring and Autumn Period, when it was called "Tangyi". After the Qin Dynasty unified the world, the county system was established, and Dingyuan County became a part of Jiujiang County. During the Western Han Dynasty, Dingyuan County was renamed Quyang, which belonged to Jiujiang County of Yangzhou Secretariat. During the Eastern Han Dynasty, the name of Dingyuan County was restored. During the Three Kingdoms period, Dingyuan County belonged to Wei and Wu successively. After the unification of the Western Jin Dynasty, Dingyuan County was subordinate to Chuzhou, Yangzhou Secretariat. During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, Dingyuan County successively belonged to Nanliang, Chen Nan, Nanwu, Nantang and other countries.

In the Song Dynasty, Dingyuan County belonged to Chuzhou, Huainan West Road. In the Yuan Dynasty, Dingyuan County was upgraded to Dingyuan Prefecture. In the Ming Dynasty, Dingyuan Prefecture was reduced to Dingyuan County, which belonged to Fengyang Prefecture. In the Qing Dynasty, Dingyuan County was subordinate to Fengyang Prefecture in Anhui Province. During the Republic of China, Dingyuan County was successively subordinate to Anhui Province and Jiangsu Province. After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), Dingyuan County was placed under Chuzhou City.

In the long historical process, many historical celebrities such as Zhou Yu, a famous star in the late Eastern Han Dynasty, and Ouyang Xiu, a writer in the Northern Song Dynasty, have emerged in Dingyuan County. In addition, Dingyuan County has rich cultural heritage, such as Quyang Bridge and Dingyuan Ancient City Wall.
