The Origin and Legend of the Name of Elephant Trunk Mountain in Xiangshan Scenic Area

Elephant trunk hill, referred to as "Xiangshan" for short, is located at the confluence of Lijiang River and taohuajiang. It is named because its mountain shape resembles an elephant standing by the Lijiang River, with its nose stretched out and water in its mouth. There is a cave across the mountain called "Elephant Eye Rock".

The scarred idol was separated from the Emperor of Heaven in the battle and fell ill in Guilin. When the elephant was dying, a pair of Guilin old men, Xianggong and Xiangpo, saved it. Xianggong and Xiangpo asked the carp of Lijiang River for its beard, made it full of refined rice flour, and fed it to Baoxiang. The elephant slowly recovered to health. At that time, fairies in the Lijiang River in Guilin often made waves, and sometimes floods broke out, which made the villagers miserable. The gods subdued a group of water monsters, and with the help of Baoxiang, all the people in Guilin lived a good life. The immortal also likes to be with Guilin people and decides not to go back to heaven.

The Emperor of Heaven is grateful to the gods for their protection. Emperor Tiandi heard that the statue would stay in Guilin and was grateful for its protection. So the Emperor of Heaven ordered Bodhisattva Samantabhadra to go to Guilin and dedicated one of the most powerful instruments in the hands of the Emperor of Heaven, the Nine-turn Town Demon Tower, to the gods. Since then, the immortals have lived with Xianggong, Xiangpo and the people of Guilin, plowing fields and controlling water for them, and living a fairy-like life happily.
