The highest institution of learning in ancient China was imperial academy.

China's imperial examination system was formed as early as the Sui Dynasty. From then on, the starting point of officialdom is to study hard and take exams. The best university in China is imperial academy, next to the Lama Temple. Imperial academy was the highest administrative institution in China during the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, and also the highest institution of higher learning in China.

The Ming Dynasty implemented the "double Beijing" system. Imperial academy is located in Nanjing, Beijing is located in imperial academy, Nanjing imperial academy is named Nanjian and Nanyong, and Beijing imperial academy is named Beijian and Beiyong. From the first year of Yong 'an in Wu Dong (A.D. 258) to Yongle in Ming Dynasty, Nanjing imperial academy covered an area of more than ten miles, with bright lights and huge momentum. Its scale is unprecedented. At that time, neighboring Korea, Japan, Ryukyu and Siam were all "eager for culture and education" and often sent students to imperial academy. Imperial academy was the highest administrative institution in China during the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, and also the highest institution of learning in China, which was built in the decade of Dade (1306).
