What's the use of asking for an ID number?

Legal analysis: ID number mainly plays the role of identifying and confirming citizenship. Citizenship number is a characteristic combination code, which consists of 17 bit ontology code and check code. The order from left to right is: six-digit address code, eight-digit date of birth code, three-digit serial code and one-digit check code.

Legal basis: Article 3 of the Law of the People's Republic of China on Resident Identity Cards includes: name, gender, nationality, date of birth, location of permanent residence, citizenship number, personal photo, fingerprint information, validity period of certificate and issuing authority.

Citizenship number is a unique and life-long identity code for every citizen, which is compiled by public security organs according to the national standard of citizenship number.

Citizens applying for obtaining, renewing or replacing resident identity cards shall register their fingerprint information.
