According to historical records, Kangxi did not believe in Buddhism. Why does he often go to Wutai Mountain to burn incense?

There are two reasons. The first one is said that the emperor shunzhi, Kangxi's father, did not die, but went to Wutai Mountain to become a monk. The second is because Kangxi's grandmother Xiaozhuang believed in Buddhism. Kangxi was a filial person and often prayed to the Buddha to prolong her grandmother's life. Kangxi's father Shunzhi was the first emperor of the Qing Dynasty. He ascended the throne at the age of six, and with the assistance of Regent Dourgen, he successfully entered the customs and secured the throne in the Forbidden City.

After the death of Regent Dourgen, Shunzhi was able to lead the country. Although Shunzhi married the queen Dourgen found for him, she quickly resisted the opposition of courtiers and even threatened Xiaozhuang to abolish the queen with her own body as a bet. Xiaozhuang was afraid that something really happened to his body, so he agreed with him. He succeeded in turning the queen into a quiet princess. Later, he began to spoil Dong Efei. After Dong E Fei's unfortunate early death, she was so sad that she couldn't control herself, and then she gave up.

But there is also a saying that Shunzhi is actually a monk. Because according to historical records, Shunzhi did have the idea of leaving government affairs and becoming a monk, and even shaved his head, but he was finally persuaded not to become a monk, but sent one of his own little eunuchs to become a monk. The little eunuch died not long after becoming a monk, so some people say that Shunzhi is actually pretending to be dead so that he can become a monk.

Secondly, Kangxi was raised by sourdrang queen, and the two generations had a good relationship since childhood. Before Xiaozhuang's death, Kangxi went to the Temple of Heaven on foot, praying that God would wreck his life to prolong Xiaozhuang's life. Because Xiaozhuang believed in Buddhism, Kangxi often went to Wutai Mountain, or maybe he went to worship Buddha for his grandmother to increase her merits and make her live longer.
