It is said that Jigong wants to drink and eat meat. Is that so? Did he say "wine and meat lead the Buddha's heart, and learn from me when I die"?

Jigong was a monk in the Southern Song Dynasty, and it is said that it did exist in history. Unconstrained, fond of wine and meat, seemingly crazy behavior. He is a learned and versatile monk. It is listed as the fiftieth ancestor of Zen Buddhism and the sixth ancestor of Yangqi School. He wrote 65,438+00 volumes of Quotations from the Peak and many poems, which were mainly included in the Records of Jingci Temple and Brahma Mount Tai. Knowing medical skills, he cured many incurable diseases for the people. He is good at fighting against injustice and killing people to save lives. His virtues of helping the poor, eliminating violence, promoting good and punishing evil have left a unique and beautiful impression in people's hearts.

However, his story was magically rendered by the people, and he was honored as long as 28 words: "Great kindness, great compassion, great wisdom, arhat of Zijin, venerable person, making great efforts to benefit ancestors and praising Buddha", which was deified to the extreme.

Jigong hadith:

Life is cultivated-

I don't know what will happen tomorrow today-what to worry about, what to complain about if I didn't fix this in my last life;

Not filial to parents, not filial to the world-what to respect, gamblers have no bottom-what to play;

Brothers and sisters are all one spirit-what to strive for, it is better to ask for help than to be diligent and diligent-what to expect;

Children and grandchildren have their own blessings-what to worry about, when to pay back any grievances-what to bear;

How can people be unlucky-what's the hurry? Things are nothing like a chess game.

It's hard to smile in this world.

Replenish the cold and warm, that is, rest-what to put, what to lie down, what to lie down;

What can you achieve by eating a golden tongue? -What is right and wrong?

After death, people can't take anything away-what, who can be safe forever-what;

What people have harvested after their predecessors' fields-what they have, the focus is on people's hearts, not on mountains-what they pursue;

Cheap is cheap-greed is greed, deceiving others is a curse, forgiving others-divination is greed;

Hold your head three feet high, and you will have God-what to bully, what to kill, and what to protect yourself.

Prosperity is just around the corner-what are you proud of? Once everything is impermanent, rest-what are you busy with?

In some literary works, Ji Gong gives the impression that he is unruly and likes wine and meat, and seems to be completely free from the constraints of Buddhist precepts, which makes people feel that he is more cordial and humane.

There is a four-character poem in the biography of Jigong, which illustrates this point.

The Buddha left a poem,

I am repairing my mouth in Xiu De;

Some people mend their mouths, but not their hearts.

Self-cultivation, not self-cultivation.

On the surface, this poem seems to be a defense of Ji Gong's imprudence. In fact, it contains a philosophy of life: some people fast and recite Buddha, but they have no intention of doing good in their hearts and are doing extremely immoral things behind their backs. It is far from enough to measure and judge whether a person is true, kind and beautiful. The most important thing is to see the essence through the phenomenon. Moreover, it must be investigated and honed for a long time to truly explain his essence and eternity. Jigong finally proved all this with his own actions.
