On March 5, 2004, Beijing Capital International Airport Co., Ltd. took over the 5 1% equity of Wuhan Tianhe International Airport Co., Ltd. and successfully controlled it. Hubei Airport Group Company was established. On February 29th, 65438, the second phase of the airport project started.

From June 5438 to 10, 2006, the Civil Aviation Administration of China and the Hubei Provincial Government jointly identified Wuhan as the first comprehensive air transport reform pilot in China, and began to build a modern three-dimensional transportation hub in the central region with Wuhan Airport as the core, and officially started all the work. This indicates that Hubei's civil aviation industry will usher in great development in the next twenty or thirty years.

In April 2008, Terminal 2 of Wuhan Tianhe International Airport was put into operation.

On March 6, 2009, China Southern Airlines and Hubei Airport Group Corporation deepened the cooperation agreement and strengthened the construction of Wuhan hub. On June 25th, Air China Hubei Branch was established and made its maiden voyage.
