The birthplace of Gaojia opera

The birthplace of Gaojia Opera is Quanzhou, Fujian.

Gaojia Opera is a traditional central opera in Quanzhou and Xiamen, Fujian Province, one of the traditional central operas in Minnan language family, and a national intangible cultural heritage.

Gaojia Opera, also known as "Ge Jia Opera", "Jiujiao Opera", "Taipan Opera" and "Tuban Opera", originated in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, and originated from a costume parade in southern Fujian in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties, in which Liangshan heroes were dressed up and martial arts were played.

On May 20th, 2006, Gaojia Opera was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage, numbered Ⅳ-48.

Performance style

The performing arts of Gaojia Opera are partly from Liyuan Opera and Puppet Opera, and partly from Yiyang Opera, Huizhou Opera and Beijing Opera. Gaojia Opera was originally named "Song Jiang Opera". Song Jiang Opera is mainly martial arts, and its scenery is mostly folk "lion cutting" (that is, artists dress up as warriors and fight with lions with various weapons).

The existing sets of martial arts on the stage, such as "cold frying pan", "big collision field" and "phoenix wagging its tail", not only retain the traditional performance of "cutting the lion", but also absorb the martial arts of muppets, which are called "Jialidou".
