Who is the founder of root carving?

According to legend, the ancestor of root carving is Lu Ban's apprentice Taishan, and there is a beautiful legend here.

A long time ago, there lived a couple in front of Mount Tai. They lost two children after marriage. A few days after the twelfth lunar month, with a cry, my wife gave birth to a white fat son.

Afraid of losing their children again, they named their children "Taishan" according to the instructions of a fortune teller. With the resounding name of Mount Tai, children not only look watery, but also have no headache and brain fever, which is very attractive. When Taishan grows to the age of 10, he becomes a smart card. He took a group of little brothers all day, made a clay sculpture of a dog and cat out of yellow mud, or tied a bird or beast with straw. Although no one taught him, he did it vividly.

This year, the carpenter's grandfather Lu Ban came to Tai 'an City to work, and happened to live in Taishan for half a year. Children from poor families have no money to study, so they can only make a living by learning a trade.

When Lu Ban left, Taishan's parents suggested that their children learn carpentry from him. From then on, Taishan followed Master Luban to make furniture, doors and windows for others.

Mount Tai is very interested in Luban's woodcarving. Whenever Lu Ban painted dragons, phoenixes and carved birds on plush chairs and ladders, he always looked intently and then found a piece of wood to imitate the master's carving. Because Taishan is still a child, Lu Ban doesn't force him to learn. A year later, Lu Ban saw that he really couldn't learn carpentry, so he asked Taishan to go home first and wait until he grew up. Later, he was sent back to Taian.

After Taishan came home, he began to collect firewood and dig medicine every day. One day, he found that the roots dug back were grotesque, some were like magpies climbing plums, some were like monkeys exploring the moon, some were like two dragons playing with pearls, and some were like Kirin giving treasures.

With his rich imagination and carving skills learned from Master Lu Ban, he repeatedly pondered and carefully carved, made wood blocks that could only be used as rotten firewood, and then sold them to tourists near the memorial archway of Daizongfang.

A few years later, in order to build a ladder to climb the city, Lu Ban took his disciples to Mount Tai to choose firewood. When he walked along the memorial archway of modern Zongfang, he saw that there were many handicrafts carved with tree roots, which were lifelike and could not help but exclaim.

Just as Luban savored those handicrafts, he suddenly found that the young man who set up the stall was not others. It turned out that Taishan, who studied with himself a few years ago, suddenly regretted sending him home. Taishan quickly packed his things and went home with his master.

It is said that Mount Tai later created many treasures of root carving under the guidance of Lu Ban, and since then there has been the art of root carving.
